EFI pump?

What's the best low pressure pump to use to feed my surge tank? Using 8mm line.

What brands and where to buy??

Well i would normally go out to Henry St Spares in Penrith... but since you are a QLD boy, i dont think that helps.

What you want is a high volume electric carbby pump. Many of the big boy V8 nutters use them, so a good old school parts shop should have the gear you want.

Just ask the bloke for a high flow electic carby pump, for a big fatty V8

The lift pump you need to use really depends on the main pump your using and the engine you are trying to feed. ???

If your using 5/16 lines then AC delco do and inline left pump that flows around 3.0 - 3.5 LPM or therwise the carter gold runs 5/16 fittings and flows around 4.5 LPM.

Don't get a Facet - they are uber noisy - this is what I have because I couldn't resist a $20(ish) bargain. I think most of the boys use Holleys or Carters. Another guy I know used a Pierburg (spelling?) - very quiet. Any of the V8 mongy "performance" shops will have them

Thanks for the feedback.

About the only thing I was sure of was to not use a facet pump. The noise they make is terrible.

I have come up with an idea.

The plan is to make a surge tank with an in-tank pump inside it. I can fit this set up under the front mudguard in the engine bay and I can make it so the pump can be replaced. I can then put a low pressure pump back near the fuel tank to feed it.

What do you think?

Do you mean put the fuel pump/surge tank/lines inside the mudguard?

You might want to reconsider, accident damage in that spot could mean sparks and spilled fuel, causing a fire.

If you meant inside the engine bay, against the mudguard, thats slightly less dangerous.
An under bonnet fire could still turn your surge tank into a small bomb, but it wouldn't be the same as 6 foot flames shooting from your crushed front guard.

As a road user, i prefer that fuel stay inside and underneath the rear of other cars as much as possible, but thats just me.

Honestly I think the intank pump inside the surge tank idea is more trouble than its worth but hey its your car. Just make sure you have enough capacity and of course that you check with your engineer re acceptable mounting locations.

I think the rule of thumb is anywhere behind the strut towers (or in your case front suspension) BUT I'm not 100% sure so it would pay to check.

It was just something I wondered about. I guess having an adequate in-tank pump sitting on the bench makes you think weird things. There has been a new development and it looks like I will be changing the chassis. Similar reasons to Luke.

So, I will either make or get made a surge tank like yours (Toyman). I can fit it in the same location too.
