    Default A70 1GGTE overheat

Hi people, GA70 overheating, heres my issue,
Over 15 kms, the temp sits on half until all the fluids have pumpped out of the radiator and the overflow bottle is all that remains, the rest has gone to the road,
There are 6 elements which i am considering, halfway through eliminating each one.

1.radiator cap-not preventing empty out but returning all fluids after cooldown, unsure if pressure build up is forcing all fluids out.

    2.thermostat-removed to ensure no blockage.

3.heater core-bypassed to ensure no blockages in flow.

4.water pump-no leak but suspect blade wear, there is ok flow through the top of rad but not as much as i would think should be.

5.thermo fan- not running, but shroud fan is ok,even on freeway it emptys and i feel the wind at high speed should keep it cool enough, cannot find fuse for thermo and yet to test both power to fan and or if fan is broken

6.head gasket-yet to compression test, no mix of water in oil oroil or fuel smell in fluid or radiator.

The car had been standing for 1 year unregisted until now, Drove the car from melbourne to sydney and has been sitting whilst being prepped for the spray booth and blueslip, there were no problems with heat issues when the car was driven here 1 year ago.

The whole pressure thing is what im leaning towards as rad cap may not release pressure as water expands therefore pumping it out but sealing the system hence holds pressure to suck it back in. Custom radiator so cannot find a 0.9 cap that can push down far enough to screw on as others ive tried look the same but a little short in length.

Any suggestions will be much appreciated,

    thank you.

fill it up with the car jacked up at the front to make sure you get the system bled right cut the bottom off a coke bottle or something similar with some volume of about a litre that will fit and seal in the filler neck helps the air bleed out by making this the highest point of the cooling system) just keep topping up gradually once your satisfied its full as its running.
if after say its warmed up keep an eye on the level of coolant, if its gone from a little bit showing in the bottle to practically full and bubbling up all over the place after 10-15 mins chances are its the head/head gasket.
doing this will also test your thermo fan as well as its idling and get up to temp youll hear it cut in.

ok, i will try to wrap my head around the bottle concept till the morning when i can try this, so far there has been no bubbles or froth in either tank or overflow whatsoever,

and the thermo fan will not cut in at any point so far including the point at which i shutdown before the last bar is reached on the temp.

    thanks for your tips

    thermos are shit...

but if they worked fine before they should be turning on/off when it reaches operating temp and is sitting there idling...

if they are not you need to investigate that one...

my old 1ggte used to do the same as you describe but ide get an hour drive before it would happen...
turned out to be a BHG...

yup, its looking that way now, im going with BHG after some more testing, with all blockages removed and free flow of fluids, the only pressure build up areas left are rad cap and HG, now confirmed its not the cap

thank you for your responses everyone,

    kind regards.

Do you really think you are qualified to make any form of suggestion or criticism? If anything we should be inserting the obligatory STFU Aloshan remark ....
