as far as im aware the R154 came in a cable driven speed sensor and an electronic version, does anyone know which came in what?

I've had two JZA70 gearbox's with cable drive assemblies, I've screwed the electrical sender from a JZX81 auto onto the JZA70 cable drive on one of the boxes to drive a digital dash in my JZX81, also screwed the speedo cable straight onto the jza70 sender in my GX70 wagon.

this probably doesn't help but the speedo cable from a VL Commodore screws straight in the R154 too

JZA70/MA70 has a cable, JZZ30 is electronic, pretty sure the rest would be electronic (eg JZX90/100).

From my experience all r154s ive had that have been remote shift have been electronic speedo sensor where as the early model jza70/ma70 where cable though i had a jza70 box that had the electric sensor which throws that theory out a bit but that could have been changed by other people or whatever

im putting it into a 180sx with a autometer 260km speedo so i need to convert the cable drive to electrical somewhere along the track, might get a unit from a later model and tap into that and just hide it under the dash somewhere...
    thanks mate

    an update for those interested...
the electronic version of the R154 was only in the jzz30/31 and jzx...
rocket do a little box that converts cable to electronic for those wanting to run aftermarket speedos for about 120 bucks

if VL ones fit, would R31 skyline ones fit? as the run the same gearbox? and R31 is 3wire electric and would be alot cheaper and easyer to find

I'm pretty sure the factory manual mz20's (not that there are really any of them out there) would have had electronic senders too due to the digital dash.

Anyway thats not why i bumped this thread.. I'm chasing a a wiring diagram for the electronic sender, any able to help?

Digital dash does NOT indicate electronic speed sensor. MkII and MkIII Supras definitely have a mechanical setup even when fitted with a digital dash, and I suspect MZ20 would be the same.

Hmm, fair enough. Pretty illogical, but fair enough. I wouldn't have though a cable drive would be cheaper than a few runs of wire..
