You need to tap into the IGF wire on the Igniter.
Hi Guys,
Kinda stumped on something that seems pretty straight forward.
Trying to hook up an aftermarket tacho (Cheepo SAAS) on a 4age.
I hooked up power and ground and the gauge lit up and thought it was just a matter of tapping into the negative side of the coil for RPM signal (black wire) but does not work.
I grounded a test light and connected to the negative and it did appear to pulse when cranking. Is it safe to assume the gauge is faulty and should exchange it.
Thanks - Puffy

Yep I did that first and nothing happened.
It is a conversion so I went directly to the negative coil just in case... should it work directly off the negative or is this coil different?
Thanks

you could also hook it up to the terminal in the diagnostic plug using a terminal saving you from cutting into harnesses. pretty sure there all the same its the terminal outside the box with a little rubber boot on it on its own.
Thanks mate... I did notice the iGf from the ignitor splits and goes to the diagnostic plug.
Based on what everyone has said, I got the tacho exchanged and will try again tomorrow.
Cheers - Puffy

The new tach was faulty guys... after swapping it over at Superfail the replacement worked without issue.
