Default HKS twinspark with standard 1jz coils? or other form of ignitor

hey guys, new to wiring up ecu's and stuff, (dw im not doing a customers car im practing on my own lol)

ive been reading into this and ive found that while i can get the stock 1jz non vvti ignitor to work with my link g4 extreme and stock coils (i will upgrade to superspark coils later) ive also read that with an upgraded form of ignitor they work much much better..

so, is the HKS twin spark worth using in pace of the stock ignitor or is there a cheaper just as effiecient ignitor i can use that encorporates 6 inputs and outputs for sequential spark?

i could goggle a few but you guys seem to be the pros.. btw the g4 extreme does have 8 ignition outputs so i can use sequential spark =)

Think you won't note any serious improvement over factory setup, unless you already modified the engine for some extra 70% power or more. Igniters do not fade over time, while coils and most of all wires may do.

In general, the only thing that really requires new ignition system is more boost. More boost means spark would occur at higher coil output voltage. However, to safely raise spark voltage, you will need new igniter, coils, wires and plugs at once.

I have been down this exact path and had no success with the factory ignitor and my G4 Extreme. I got the ignitor to work at idle and light load but any mid to high rpm with load would create a miss.
I spent several hours adjusting the dwell table after speaking to Simon at Link and it improved but not a great deal. JasonP on this site helped me greatly and I bit the bullet and got some 1NZFE coils in there with in uilt ignitors. The whole setup cost me sub $400 for the coilpacks, adaptor plate, wiring and new terminal.

I'll post some links and pics shortly so you can see what they are like.

P.S Guys that have used these coils are rating them at 100hp per cylinder.

Of course there is the option of LS1 coils but they are big and fucking ugly in the engine bay. The 1NZ/2NZ fit under the factory cover of the 1jz and nobody would be any the wiser.

    Just my 2c.

Awesome thanks for that info, I have access to ls1 coils but your right there an eyesore in the bay.. And even $400 is cheaper than the 3 coil igniters you can buy and which youl need 2 of.. Thamks again I knew someone would of tried this..

How do you rate the g4 extreme? Im yet to finish my build but its a 1jz with a 35r

Mate I love the link products and wouldn't use anything else in my own cars, except Vipec. I used to work for the Sydney distributor and got mine at a good price.

I'm in the exact same boat as you mate. Check my members ride thread as I have a 1jz with a GT35r aswell.
