shouldn't need to remove the oil pump to get to that large bolt - looks like it is even outside the timing cover?
unless you want to check the pump out

hey i couldnt find any info other than what people could tell me so while i did mine i took some pics hope it helps anyone who is building a 1g. for those who dont know this will raise the oil pressure so the bearings get some more oil as its a normal problem for the 1gs
first remove the oil pump
remove the large bolt from down the bottom be careful for the spring
add a small washer to under the spring then reassemble easy as that

assembly is just the opposite of disassembly - just you swear in different spots!
Shimming the overflow valve just makes the point where that valve opens later.
Im guessing thats what you want?
ie. if its shimmed at stock say 70psi, the oil will get to 70psi then the valve will open. If you shim it then it might open at 80psi instead.

It has worked for me, for a while. Oil starvation is a common problem on 1gs. Great 2ltr other than that.
