    Default 2JZ auto box/tailsharft setup

Hey peeps, trying to get this 2jz Cressida auto conversion finished off and I need some tailshaft questions awnsered. Mainly I'm asking about the rubber donut thing that sits between the box and the first part of the tailshaft. I'm just wondering how necessary it is as it's quite tall and comes pretty close to the tunnel and I'm worried about it hitting under hard acceleration or a good launch.

you must have the aristo style auto...

the jza80 style output has a 4 bolt flange and it is much smaller...

not sure if you can find them easy enough...

will require the output shaft to be cut down slightly as its a little long (usually sits inside rubber donut)

can dig up pics if you want to see what im talking about

yeah man that would be good

this is the back of the box

    This is the tailshaft arrangement

Id like if anyone could shed some light on why toyota have done it this way and not the way its done like every other A340 setup where the yoke goes straight into the back of the box?

Also is there any benifit to having a 2 piece tailshaft? I would prefer a 1 piece for simplicity and to ditch the center bearing.

I looked at Glen75's 2j merc setup and he has an interesting but expensive custom jobbie on the back of his 2j auto box

The main objective is to ditch the rubber donut because of clearance issues, id prefer the easiest/cheapest alternative but dont want to make the tailshaft the weak point as it will be supporting 500ish hp. When i say easiest/cheapest i dont want to totally skimp out just dont want to go overkill.

see this thread for a part number...
    http://www.toymods.org.au/forums/par...ange-only.html

the big nut can be removed with a 30mm or 36mm deep socket i believe... and that stupid pronged thing will come out...

you can then get your tailshaft custom 1 piece or whatever to suit what you want...

probably pretty slim but you could try rutherford and bond toyota in nz and see what the price is...

in that thread the price was 220 and from nz parts are usually cheaper

call some auto gearbox mobs you never know your luck...

    opening up this discussion again.

I think ive seen somewhere a one piece tailshaft with no slip yoke. Would a non slip yoke tailshaft be ok in a cressida being IRS rear? Im just thinking this because it would give me more room under the car for the exhaust and there being no centre bearing

In my old auto setup there was a long slip join. Sort of like a shock absorber.

some guys swap over the 7m cressida auto extension housing on the 2j box that way you can run the factory tailsharft? i looked into it when mine was auto but i think you have to open up the auto and swap the 7m sharft. to run the slip yoke like the 1j's. mv autos have done it from what ive heard. how big of an exhaust are you going? ive got 3.5'' with center bearing with plenty of room?
