Default 7M-GE Cylinder Head on 6M-GE Block???

    Hey Guys,

I have a 1982 MA61 with a 6M-GE installed, And have just considered the option of installing a 7M-GE cylinder head on to the block....

I've tried searching for some info on doing this but have fallen short of finding anything,

does anybody know if this can be done and what is required to do so???

    Thanks guys,
    any help will be appreciated!
    Mik.

i vaguely recall someone discussing this years ago, but in a nutshell:
    - pistons have different flycuts or at a minimum you'd have to check that the 6M pistons don't belt the 7M valves
    - wrong - deleted.
    - also wrong - deleted
    - also wrong - deleted

Chuck, 6MGE's run timing belts, and 7MGE's have 6MGE cranks in them.
The 6MGE also has head mounted dizzy (albeit on the other side).

If you serious, look at the celicasupra.com forums for info. The yanks love to do semi-pointless conversions like this.

But I REALLY have to ask the question of WHY ?
When you can just chuck in a whole 7MGE for probably a lot less $$, and a LOT less effort.

Thanks anyway Chuckster, got me confused for a second there...

Cruzida, I'll check out those forums for info,
the main reason being the engine is still fresh (less then 1000kms old) and has had considerable work done...
Im just sick to death of those stupid hydralic lifters in the 6M head!!!!

Also, as far as dollars go, i have access to majority of the parts that i assume i will need for this conversion through work...

    cheers,
    Mik.

hey mate what kind of work have your done to the 6mge....

personal opinion theonly reason for having a 6mge instead of a 7m is cos the head look so much better....

i have a 6mge that'll be goin into my supra keeping it with a 6mge head

Agreed, the 6M is a much better looking engine...

Im going to continue trying to nut out this valve train noise,

The 6M has just had the usual things done:
    bored and honed,
    crankshaft regrind
    new bearings (hardened)
    chrome rings
    Lightened and balanced bottom end
and the engine block has been machined a lazy .025" (10:1 comp)

ahh yeah i'm looking at getting 1mm oversized valves and double valve springs made and get some decent rpm out of it ...

for the bottom end your name it i'll be getting it done....

i love having a dad who built race cars in his younger years....

Yeah I saw the 1mm o/s valves, I was tempted but decided against.... Or else where does it stop...
The head has been ported, polished and throated, it pulls to about 7,500rpm!!!

It sure does help having an oldman that did this kinda stuff, but now that I do it for a living I'm like "step aside dad, I'll show ya how it's done"

Next I'm going to start looking at what's involved to put the 7m-gte manifolds and turbo on... That should be fun for a daily....

    will sounds very unique!!!

plus i currently have the side pipes too

    8,000RPM??????
Me like!!! Me like very much!!!
Should be quiet possible if I can get my mildly modified one out to 7,500!!!

I've seen the turbo manifolds, but this is a daily, so nothing too extreme... I have the SA63 for that!!!

Side pipes??? Awesome!!! You got a pic of that??
