    Default 22R oil feed dowel

    Hi
anybody know whether the 22R needs the little dowel in the oil feed to the cyl head?
it fits between the block and the head around a head bolt. Cant find it in toyo diy, its like it doesnt exist.

    any ideas?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's not an oil feed dowel, but just a head dowel... (it's been a while since I've had my head off)

If it's the head dowel you speak of, there should be 2, and yes you need them to stop the head from moving sideways under load.

Theres two small dowels front and back but this oil one goes around the front right headbolt. The oil comes up a gallery then across and up the shank of the bolt.
Mate saw it there as he lifted the head off then dropped it.

Oh right you are!!!! Yeah, that's right, they run the small solid dowels,
I can't recall that oil dowel, and I've played with these motors for the past 8 years now....

All I'm going to say is if it was there it's there for a reason and you don't want to be stuffing around when it comes to the cylinder head and oil delivery...

Ps. When are you re fitting the head?
I've got a few of my heads at work I'll check them out to see... If I can find one of the dowels you speak of I'll mail it down...

i think he's gotta get a new valve or 2 for it. even if you could just confirm it actually exists that would be great!

Hey mate, just had a look at a couple of 22r heads, and I see the oil feed you speak of, but my heads have no dowel!!!
And they are not machined to suit for a dowel either!!!
Does your head bolt hole have a step machined into it for a dowel? Cause mine are only slightly tapered!!!
Are you sure what your mate saw was just the brass "press ring" that is on the gasket around the oil feed???

hey, thanks for looking. The head and the block have a step machined in that looks like its there for a reason, however if there was a restrictor needed for oil supply to the Cam, you would think it would be in the head itself? weird.

    This is not my motor:

But in order to help or try and help here I thought I'd find a pic of the section you mean. In this pic the oil gallery is in the lower right and looks like two holes and an ellipse.

One being the oil gallery and the other being the lower threaded section that the head bolt or stud goes into. And as you say the oil passes up this passage into the head from the block.

It is hard to tell in this pic but there is a brass section in the gasket. I didn't have a dowel in that location when I rebuilt mine.
