    Default 5mge rocker arm order

Ive been replacing the valve stem seals in my 5mge and somehow 3 of the bags I was storing the individual lifers and rocker arms in broke open. The TSRM noted not to mix up the order of the rocker arms - but the only marking on the rockers are various letters from the alphabet, and I cant find a diagram that references these. Is there anyway to tell where the rocker arms are meant to go, or does it actually not matter that much.

    Hey mate,

I've got the 6m-GE, and I've had the cam boxes off many times and have never kept the rockers in order!!!!
I have a rattle in the valve train, but it was there from day one, and everytime I mix and match the lifters/rockers it still makes no difference, no. 5 inlet is still always noisy!!!
So I think you'll be fine!!!
I don't see how it can matter when they are hydraulic lash adjusters!!! It doesn't make sense!!!

    Cheers,
    Mik.

Ps. Just make sure when you tighten down the cam box, the lifters preload (they squash down a bit when on the camshaft BASE circle )

the only thing i've ever been told is to keep all parts in order and grouped together...
when i rebuilt the 5mge we scratched numbers and I or E in the side... makes it easy as
the only rattle you should have in the head after a rebuild is the lifters for about a minute before they prime up

the main reason to keep it all the same is to keep wear all the same.... otherwise u may find valvestem seals will wear quicker and clearances will get bigger adjucting to the new combination of parts...

Your 100% correct about keeping everything in order in regards to wear pattern, however not fatal if you dont...

the lifters have bled through on my engine and it puurrrrrs, but once she hits 3,500 rpm and above it does have a quiet loud rattle....

im thinking no. 5 inlet valve may have been cut down slightly too far when i was reseting valve pertrusion heights, causing the lifter to not have much preload.. so at about that rpm the lifter doesnt have enough time to re pump up before being re opened...

or atleast thats what im hoping...

yeah not fatal but not good for getting life out of a rebuild
