Last time this happened to me I had a split hose somewhere.
I assume you've re-bled the brakes and it hasnt helped?
Hi all.
Long time reader,
Currently riding in MX83, with a 1UZ V8 convo. Sweet daily sleeper.
Over the last few days the brakes seemed a bit different than before, like they were needing to warm up before biting.
Well today the pedal feel was worse, and just as I pulled up at work the pedal went straight to the floor, no brakes at all really. Handbrakied into the carpark and left it there...
Ive checked all the calipers, and there is no evidence of leaking. No drips anywhere.
It seems it may be tha Brake Master Cylinder. Ive done a few searches, pert number:
JB1768 comes up a bit.
Jus wondering if there are any wasy to make sure im in the ball park, and if these can be rebuilt or something as the rebuild kits are no longer available from everywhere ive looked...
Currently in Canberra, any advice appreciated!

I'll give it a go tonight... gotta work to 6pm, then drive the minister of finance home, have dinner, get tools, back to work to get it sorted out... Gonna be a looong night!
Ive found a few parts suppliers that can do the BMC for $255 supply only, and a resleeve and kit costs $220...
Might try bleeding first, see what happens afrer that. (gotta get some hoses and bottles etc to play with)
'I've scrapped better.' John stated when asked about the car by the guy with the silver tipped cowboy boots!
I know qbn auto wreckers have at least 3 MX83s. Not sure if they have the BMC, but worth a shot.
I'm sure they wouldn't charge too much for it... and if they want something stupid for it. Well you know what to do
I'm free on friday if you need a hand.
I bit the bullet and just ordered one from a mate at a parts shop.
$195, Protech, part number WAS JB1768, but the catalogue lists JB1879 and the vehc a landcruiser of somesort... so maybe there was a mistake on their internal parts listing or something, OR the cressy and the landcruiser share parts!
Getting a 2nd hand unit rebuilt and sealed etc was $180 and a turn around time on-top of that. $15 extra and get brand new seems easiest!
So im hopeing it arrives by Friday, and install on saturday arvo! (might also wire up the JDM foggies in the headlights, and a few other bits and pieces)
Might take some pics and do a mini tutorial for other nufties out there.
Well Its done.
THe actual part number JB1879 does indeed refer to the MX83 (Series 1)
The part that I DID get sent (that was supposed to be the right one, and 'apparently' works on landcruisers) was not a direct fit.
The front hard line was horisontal instead of vertical on the orig one.
So I had to bend the brake line to suit.... VERY tricky as this stuff can be more kinky than ya mum in clear heels.
results were awesome, I reckon the seal was on its way out ever since I owned the car (about a year now)
Now there is really direct pedal feel , alot more control in heavy braking, no random lockups etc. Im loving it.
Also worth noting I have slotted rotors all round, and MASSIVE single piston fron calipers off a soarer i think.
During the week I also noted some reall mad rattling/knocking on the right strut. Had a look last night and the strut insert retaining coller was 2 treads away from coming off completely.
Fixed that quickly and all is good!
