    Interesting thread
So where is the extra reduction or step up so the the front and rear ratios match each other , I'm confused at how the front ratio can be changed but rear must stay at 2.92 .
I understand the rear axel is driven from after the front reduction hence the different ratio . Some ae 95' s have a centre diff lock so front to would have to be the same as rear .
So lets say we have a 4/1 ratio up the front the input rpm to the centre diff is reduced by 4 = axel speed now wouldn't the rear need to be 1 to 1 to mirror the front axel speed . I'm confused ??

You have to realise there are actually three differential ratios with the AWD set up.

Think of the front transfer case and the rear diff as a pair. The front has a ratio of 1:2.92 and the rear is 2.92:1. That way the two cancel each other out effectively.

You then have a conventional final drive in the gearbox like a front wheel drive. The rav4 has 4.9:1 final drive.

    So therefore gearbox 4.9/1 x 1/2.92 x 2.92/1 = 4.9:1

Sorry I cant display them properly as fractions, the 2.92 cancels out and you are left with 4.9 ratio

Just calculated the ratios from a camry box, using 8000 rpms (GZE) as a guide
    1st: 48km
    2nd: 84km
    3rd: 128km
    4th: 166km
    5th: 208

Also considered a stock 7A bottom end which increase torque but reduce revs let's say 7000rpm
    1st: 42km
    2nd: 73km
    3rd: 112km
    4th: 145km
    5th: 182km

A drop in peak power prehaps but I'm starting to realise, I'll need to figure power to weight ratio etc.
Wagon will be for street, ..but I can see myself having a few track days with it.

BTW, all the km's above are estimated at gear shifts of around 4000-5500rpms so winding each gear out to redline would increase the km figures listed significantly more.

Right I get it , there is a actual ratio change at the centre diff to match the rear . As long as those 2 ratios are the same you are fine . This is one thing I've never pulled apart .
    Thank you

    ^^CORRECT^^

Or did you mean, you could swap the E58 gears out of a 2wd box into the 4wd A-series Ebox housing?
    just to clarify. thanks
I've pulled the 4wd transfer case off the gearbox / centre diff area and you are correct. It sort of integrates in where the cover plate on a fwd box is.
I wanted to see if I could match the 4wd transfer with the fwd lsd. I still haven't got the E58 fully apart yet but so far it's highly unlikely that an lsd front and 4wd transfer case can be matched together.
There's just too much gearing, it's all different, shaft splines are different, even the splines were a match, there's not enough room to house it all.

    Regarding the swap.
The E58 & E57F5(Corolla 4wd) gear box, 5th gear cover, transmission case and bell housing are virtually identical in every way. IIRC some of the gear cable brackets and engine mounts are slightly different but still have identical placement and function.
To remove the lsd from the E58, everything inside 5th gear cover plate has to be removed.
    shift fork
    synchro
    bearings
    locknut
    double mesh gear
    bearing retainer plate
    etc. etc.
..before the transmission case can be un-bolted from the bell housing and lifted off.

Then (I assume - haven't got that far yet!) the lsd can be removed and the 4wd transfer and centre diff-lock shafts can be mated up.
Hopefully without disassembling the shaft assemblies.
I may have to mix n match a few parts from the 4wd box, not sure yet.

You will probably want to strip the entire box and check the sychros out and the dog teeth. I had two gearboxes stripped and they were only good for parts as they were so worn. The third one was from Ebay from an importer and it was beautiful inside. They get a lot of wear if the oil is run low in them.

It is better to do it while it is apart then have to pull the motor later.

Angry Re: LSD into AE95 diff housing?

    Thread revival..

Bad news - despite 4AGZE gearboxes looking virtually identical to the corolla 4wd gearbox, 4AGZE E58/E51 FWD boxes don't interchange with AE95 Corolla's E57F5

What are you trying to achieve? Are you trying to put the lsd into the corolla box? They don't change over in the gt4 boxes either. The awd diff carrier is totally different to drive the transfer case. The trd lsd setup for racing is a very complex setup with a lsd in the gearbox and one in the transfer case.

No No.. Sorry ^^post^^ was a bit off topic from original LSD thread (that's been solved)

I wanted to run the E58 gear sets in the 4wd gearbox, but they don't fit.
Canry fwd and Rav4 4wd boxes are proven to be interchangeable though, so there's still options.
