Default 1ggte easy mods for performance

hey all i have a 1ggte in a jzx81 and i want to make it spool a bit faster it has a trust ecu and custom manifold with t3 flange and it currently has a hypergear tr43i turbo but boosts around 5000 it hasnt been tunned for the new turbo its a stock gen 3 1ggte i just want some fairly easy and cheapish mods like electronic ignition but i cant find a thread wich details the specs of what you need and how to also whats the go with a xf falcon throttle body etc

    cheers brodie

Get it tuned would be the easiest way to get it to work better. But failing that, the best way to get power from these engines is to make them breathe easier. I have to assume you've got an aftermarket intercooler and exhaust though since of the rest of the things you have. I don't think you'll be able to wire in coils for that. I have a wastespark setup on mine, but it is for a Link Ecu I got for it, and am in the process of tuning. Simple answer tune it and it will come on boost quicker. Oh and shim the oil pump and rev it out to ~8800rpm, that'll give you a much wider band of rpm for boost which helps greatly.

The only thing the wastespark setup does is help combat spark blowout (since the coils are more powerfull and can have a longer dwell) and allow me to properly adjust the ignition timing on the ecu, i.e. advance or retard it as much as I want in the ignition table. I don't know anything about the trust chips for the 1G though, so I don't know if it is possible with your setup. Also to come on boost quicker, the stock cams have three locating pins, one retarded, one at normal tdc and one to advance it. Advance the exhaust cam, this will get you on boost quicker but stifle it a bit up top.

Have you plugged the ecu into a laptop at all? And I believe that if you line the cam up at tdc and take the gear off there should be a hole at like 10oclock, thats the one to advance it, and then when the gear is on, rotate the cam so the TDC marks line up again.

i plan on upgrading coil packs on mine im gonna run vs commodore ones as i can get them for basically free. im also gonna do the xf throttlebody thing with an aluminium plenum
how do u shim the oil pump that sounds like a good idea for me as there might be a bit of limiter bashing

You really need a full stand alone to make use of such mods, if your budget conscious a piggy back that controls fuel and ignition such as the XEDE units are a good buy but they arent a patch on a full stand alone and with those mods you really should be getting one. Also think about some cams as the stock 1g cam runs out of puff above 6500 so you have a very small power band with such a large turbo.

Its not the cheapest of mods but I say ditch the hypergear and get something decent.
I just finished fitting one to an R32 (rb20) and for the performance you get they are laggy as all hell, and not all that much cheaper then buying a decent (Garrett or something) turbo. I know you already have the turbo but a GT3071 or GT3076 with a .63 rear housing would bolt up to the manifold be on boost by 4k or better and produce a shed load more snort.

what gen is your motor from what ive read gen1 and 2 will plug straight up where as gen 3 will either need to have the lugs filed off if your running an after market ecu otherwise they run a different impendance to the gen 3 there is prob a way around it thou

+1 to what has been said above me, a decent turbo, standalone ECU (Or a more thorough piggy back from the sounds of it) and cams are the way to get the engine running at its prime.

The TR43i are bit big for the engine size and old school. Check and pre-load the actuator tight and that should make some differences. Specially if the housings had to be rotated to suit the manifold.

The correct size turbo for that engine would be the SS1 or SS1PU series. They will be most responsive for the power on that size engine.

Bite the bullet and do the ecu, cams really are great though. I wouldn't fully trust moving the exhaust cam that far
