Yeah, the more I look at it the less I can see it. It's hardly worth the worry IMO

I've done nearly 500k in it and it's one of the smoothest cars I've driven, its got new-ish factory inserts though lol

Congrats on the new acquisition Dnegative, I love the shit out of mine, cheap to run, comfy and a little bit different, plus I think they are an overall tuff shape.

$3200 for that is a good buy IMHO. I paid $3000 for mine and the only good things about it that were worth the higher price was really good condition interior, the 350Z wheels and a Sony Xplod head unit. After putting in maybe $3500 (less $350 from selling the wheels) into the car I don't think there is a better combination of daily/cruiser/project car for the money.

Some times I wish I held out for an MX73 but my only regret with my MX83 is not waiting a few more days to get a super mint, completely stock one in the same colours but with a working, non-leaking factory sunroof. But the sunroof is just something I personally want, not need.

7Ms get too bad of a rep in my opinion. Treat them like an engine you give a shit about and they won't let you down, they've got kick arse torque. I think one of the main contributions of so many with dodgey head gaskets in Australia is it seems the general public here treat any 6 cylinder family sedan as a Commodore or Falcon. They treat them like shit, they use straight water instead of proper coolant, they use cheap fuel and Black & Gold oil, they trash the fuck out of them and expect them to keep going. From what I have read about MX83s so far, if you treat the 7M right it should never let you down, just the same as E34 BMW 6's etc.

The reason I settled for a Cressida over an E34, was that most of the older BMWs that came up for sale have been treated like garbage. Too many idiots buying them for the "luxury image" and not maintaining them correctly. At least Cressidas are hardly known of to most people and older folk bought them when they were new, so they were pretty much looked after for the majority of their life.

Got a bottle of Nulon 20W-50, filter and another expensive bottle of red coolant, seller said everything had been pretty well looked after with mostly genuine bits. It's got a Toyota filter on it so either it hasn't been serviced in a long time or he is true to his word lol Will be putting a new radiator in it cause they are $80 from foamy

It's also got king springs, not my favorite but better than choppies lol

Tried the heater again today, Its got a bit of a gurgle when you set the heater on hot, not using coolant, idles and runs good, not overheating nor is there milky oil as of yet so I'm not too fucked. Was a pretty good idea to get that radiator, the one I pulled out was well and truly fucked. New Fenix radiator went in perfectly. Also noticed the 7M also has the same sort of tick/knock that the 4AGE has at idle.

Might price up a TGP headgasket, intake and exhuast gaskets and ask around at work for someone who will skim a head @ mates rates, you guys reckon its only half a days work to change one? Might as well ask the boss if I can leave it at work for a week and fix it during lunch.

Might of fucked a wheel too, drove through an epic pothole in Wollongong on Friday night, had a look at it in the day time and its a fucking crater. Time for a wheel balance to see whats what, there is a bit of a vibration at 100km/h that has appeared.

to burp the cooling system properly you need to make the radiator filler neck the highest point in the cooling system. on flat ground the highest point is the heater tap. easiest way i find is to park it on an incline, turn the heater upto full and run the engine for about 15 minutes or until the bubbles stop. give it some revs while you are at it as well as idling.
if you cant park it on a decent hill either jack it right up or use a 1/2 coke bottle upside down in the radiator and seal the gap with some rags so it doesnt leak
