    Default 1JZGTE Water pump advice

Hey guys, having a bit of a dilemma, I am replacing the timing belt and associated hardware. An am looking at waterpumps. Andrew from Kudos motorsports has given me a price of $1,133.00 for the full 1JZ timing belt kit and genuine hydro fan water pump (price has dropped considerably in the last 12months, the water pump on its own was $1749.00) and he will upgrade the belt to a Trust/GReddy racing one (RRP $240). Is this the way to go? Or..

    2JZGTE waterpump - $238.45 (Genuine toyota)
    JZZ30 waterpump pulley - $198.00 (Genuine toyota)
    JZZ30 Serpentine belt - $44.00 (Genuine Toyota)
1JZ Timing belt kit with Greddy belt - $520.30 (Genuine Toyota, apart from belt)

    total = $1000.76

Then i have to rig up thermo's.. Shrouds etc..

What would you do? Hydro pump is obviously far superior than any thermo fan set up.

I have thought about going Non Genuine, but then have read about certain things not lining up (with the water pump)

I have searched high and low, found lots of threads but none of them really give an indication of whats required to do the swap.

    Opinions please Engine is a JZX81 1JZGTE in a MX83

go option B with parts from NZ and dont bother with a greddy timing belt and just use a stock one for a $200 saving...

what parts are in a "timing belt kit"
    crank and cam seals?
    idler pulley?
    tensioner?

you havent mentioned a new harmonic balancer in there anywhere... this is an important part to replace depending on the age of your current one... but its much more important than a $200 greddy belt...

Beware when buying other water pumps, between 1JZ, 2JZ turbo, non turbo, and VVTi there are two different PCD dimensions for the 4 mounting bolts for the fan/pulley, so if you get the wrong one, they won't fit.

True what you say, nothing gives the flexibility and air pulling power of the hydro setup, but if you want to get rid of the complicated and expensive components, then I guess a thermo is the only other logical option, particularly if you have aircon, since a clutch fan might not pull enough air at idle with the A/C condenser getting hot (they usually run a small supplementary thermo just for the aircon condenser)

    Cheers
    Phil

[edit] agree with midnight's comments above also, you don't need an aftermarket belt, the OEM toyota one is no problem. Maybe you'd consider an "upgrade" if you had high lift cams with massive valve seat pressures from heavy springs, but I'm guessing that's not the case here?

Midnight - It will be a free upgrade to the greddy belt though, and it goes with my cam gears will be using clear timing belt cover. Timing belt kit includes all you mentioned. Was unsure about the harmonic balancer. Parts from NZ.. Do i just ring up a toyota dealer in NZ?

1JZ Rolla - Cheers for the reply, dont have aircon, so that doesnt matter. Do you know which water pump to buy? Do i just use a 2JZGTE waterpump from say a JZA80?

    lol

i believe the easiest way would be to get a 1jzgte waterpump setup from a soarer and then get the pulley from it as well as the clutch fan... failing that i might have a waterpump/pulley combination available soon... from a car im parting out...

it is a blingy alloy pulley and also the alternator and ps pump are the same...
