    Default Diesel turbo worth saving?

Recently at work my boss decided to recoup the money he spent on us going paint balling by finding every bit of scrap metal and cashing it in. Mr Bossman decided the few crates of warranty shit we have could be turned into cash. Nothing really interesting, just heaps of dud heater cores, radiators, coolers, control valves and huge turbos. Nearly all of it was broken down and scrapped except for one turbo I found, its a small Schweitzer turbo off a 3.6L Deutz that blew a head gasket rather badly and chundered oil through it. As far as I know it works perfectly fine but was replaced regardless.

Should I bother saving it or should I just toss it out? I have a feeling most turbos for large-ish diesel engines are useless for otto cycle engines.

hybridz and dsmtuners both use holset hx35, hx40 and hx52 found on cummins motors, mostly the smaller stuff.

Bullseye power make a bolt on turbine housings to make the turbo suit petrol application, although they can be used with standard turbine housings.

Depends on what engine it's going on and how big the turbo is. The holset I have is off a 6.7 but it's only ~gt35 size, a tiny bit bigger.

Is it worth it? is the flange something common that you can just bolt up to an aftermarket manifold without too much screwing around?

Got any model numbers on it you could find out the specs with?

Any part number on the tag other than S1? Being externally gated I assume it is the smaller variety of S1's, which is a pretty small turbo.
Is it the 2" inlet and outlet for the comp cover?

Being coupled with petrol engine it won't survive for too long . Diesel exhaust is some 200 Celsius degrees colder.

The vast majority of turbos around have at some point been used in both petrol and diesel applications, with about 3 fifths of bugger all difference in construction or materials. Usually the only differences is the turbine and compressor size matching.

    Dnegative:
The majority of S1's around are from smaller diesels and have tiny comp wheels - around 50mm diameter. They are only good for around 150 to 200 ish HP worth of petrol airflow. There is a few which had a larger one which could be good for around 250 odd, but I haven't seen much on these before.

A petrol turbo is built the same as a diesel turbo, I've watched a cat 3208 being run on a dyno and the turbo on that thing was starting to glow so diesels get fucking hot too

Looks like it might boost a 4age ok

If you find any more of these laying around and you want to get rid of them, let me know. I'm after one just for the compressor + bearing centre of the turbo
