A big thanks to Michael Ratcliffe (engineering colleague) for all the help and support.
If you guys are thinking of doing a conversion yourselves one day, I advise to get a few mates in on it. Definitely becomes more of a reality when 2 (or more) minds work together.
So after a few trial runs in the backstreets; kneading out all the small glitches, and having old men point their fingers at you while you tsu tsu past their house, Douglas had his maiden voyage to uni today. It was a proud moment indeed.
The speedo is out by what appears to be exactly 10k's, which is slightly annoying as it means I need smaller wheels. This may turn out to be a good thing in the end though.
We had a bit of trouble in the backstreets with surging, i forgot to mention. Every time it came on boost, it would splutter and cough so we ripped up the boot carpets and took out the in-tank fuel pump. Very impressed with lolvo, how back in 1983, they equipped this car with 2 electric pumps AND 2 fuel tanks. The auxillary tank is what they call the second one which holds roughly 20L, overdoing the lolvo's capacity to hold a tad over 80L i believe. Crazy stuff. Anyway, we found the pre pump had shat its dacks so i went shopping around for another to replace it. Was considering going for a surge tank setup but thought this would mean more work and besides I had a work colleague who had just had his jzx100 torched so I asked if he still had the pump, and he did!
Turned out to be an arse ripper of a job trying to feed the new (larger) chaser pump along with the volvo tank float assembly through the hole into the tank, from INSIDE the boot. Took the better half of a hole day. Came very close to having a heated 1-on-1 with the pump and its associates.
Decided the auxillary tank was a waste of space, so we ditched that and blocked all the holes. The boot would fit about 6 dead ppl now.
Another recent mod we did was to the keyless entry I installed about a year ago. Wwhat we did this time was shove 2 relays in to make the lights flash -_- so its a genuine luxury sleeper.
