why the fk would u dump the fj for a crappy beams if its already in there
lets see the beams push out 400 to 500 hp with nearly std internals
Hey all,
I just bought an RA28 to build into a jap styled racer with big flares and 80's styling queues.
The car has a neat FJ20 turbo swap with a 5 speed nissan manual mated to it.
I know its sacrilege having a Nissan in a toyota, and ideally i'd want a Beams engine with ITB's but I have no idea on the amount of work I'd need to throw at it to do the conversion.
The FJ20 has had a custom sump made and the car still uses the OEM crossmember and steering box. I'd say the tailshaft has been modified to fit as well.
The question: Do I keep the FJ20 considering they are pretty much bullet proof and the car is already running perfect with it installed?
OR
Do I sell motor and box and custom fit a Beams motor with new box/tailshaft/crossmember and steering setup? How much work/cost is involved in that?
thanks
Ben

id just leave it alone and drive it. then maybe consider it if the fj fucks out but even then its as simple as bolting another fj in vs all sorts of work for a slower car.
I don't understand people getting all funny about engine conversions using a different manufacturer's engine, so long as its done well & looks good I can't see an issue, I must admit though I generally think differently when I see a commodore V6 under the bonnet of another manufacturer's car ..
As has been said I don't know why you would consider taking out a good Turbo FJ20 motor for a NA motor & if you do swap it out down the track be prepared to throw many thousands at doing the conversion & a shit load of time too ..
Yep I agree the FJ20 is getting quite a cult following and isn't a bad engine. if it was a boat anchor then you'd think otherwise.
Sure it's always better to match Toyota with Toyota, but if it currently works and the conversion was done properly, drive it until it goes pop then think about where you go next.
