I have based the start date from the day Doug's heart arrived, and the completion date as his maiden voyage to uni.

Everyones putting 1jz's into something. I thought i should do the same.

In the beginning



Yes, a half cut will EASILY fit on a 1 tonner.


Took them 3sec to load it on the ute, and a mate and I 3 hours to get it off by deflating tyres, backing the ute into the drive, and then using ropes and ratchets to lower it off. (with the tyres on) In summary, was an epic job

My apologies for not updating this forum on a regular basis, I guess it would have received more comments by now, but better late than never. Just adding these pics today (30 Nov)

Out came ol faithful. B23ET turbo. These are pretty sweet rocks. Forged internals- no wonder they (volvo) make it to the moon and back before dying. Will be looking to sell this with gbox and twin cam head, so if anybody is keen, i'm open to ALL offers.

yea, he's the prick that sold me the mounts that supposedly fitted. I regret not making my own from the start, but in all honesty, without spendin money on those mounts i don't think i would have carried the conversion out. So it was a good thing. thanks for the comments tho.


Busy doing the wiring atm, and connected the ps up aswell today. Its amazing how easily everything just fits. PS couplings, screw right up.

I thought the same too when it arrived in the post. Its 6mm thick and the dude quotes it'll handle 600-1000hp [shrug]




Update: Everything is hooked up but the wiring and prop-shaft. Its cranking, and getting fuel, but no spark. It looks to be the ECU is not grounding and completing the circuit for the coils, via the igniter. hmmm. Any thoughts?

And can anyone suggest a place to do custom tail shafts in SA?

Is that a W58 or R154 gearbox? And what was tunnel clearance and shifter position like? Also how's clearance between the steering column and dump pipe?

Nice conversion!

For tailshaft, try ATS (Adl. tailshaft service) in Dry Creek, & the other option is Hardie Spicer just round the corner from them, but ATS are cheaper.

What diff ratio does your 760 have, do you know? IRS or live axle? I'm trying to find a 4.1 ratio for the 1031 volvo diff in my cressida wagon, & any leads on what models they can be found in would help.

You could add a bit of 25mm wide flat bar, vertically along the rear edge of the trans mount to really stiffen it up. Flat bar like that is easy to bend.

Howzit Hen, gearbox is the strongbox R154 and clearances were all mint. I was amazed how well it fitted, its like 1js were made for 7 series lolvo's. I did mount the engine quite far forward to clear master cylinder, and steering arm and to avoid a whole lot of other headaches like major sump modding.

Thanks bigworm, ill try those guys out. Also what toyota tailshafts can i use? Need a spline that suits 154. Rear is live axle unfortunately, for difs this site was quite handy diff_lsd_volvo_dana but im not sure on that one.


Do you think it will be necessary Xauterus? I dont plan on big power, just a daily at this stage but i wonder.

you can use a cressida yoke (7m auto) for the r154.

Cheers boys. Well, i guess thats the next step because today he fired up! turned out to be that toyota ign power stays on when turning to 'start' position whereas lolvo didn't, hence, was only sparking once or twice after turning the 'start' position off. Stupid lolvo. BIG shout out to my mate Michael Ratcliffe for all the help finishing my beers, coffee, food, and toilet paper. And for helping with the wiring. Its definately something where 2 minds are better than one. Now comes the fun stuff of putting it together neatly and updating this thread :S

Below: a mess of wiring just to get things running. Took out 'most' of the ABS and TRC things but left quite a bit of stuff in as I didn't want to spend heaps of time tracing them all. Massive thanks to Michael once again.
