I was thinking thermostats shat itself.
Hey all,
After a system flush and coolant change my new old TA22 celica is having cooling issues.
When driving the temperature creeps up to close to 100DegC, then if I sit and idle, the temperature will very quickly rise into the danger zone.
Back home I flushed the system again and started up the engine, I noticed the radiator inlet side (hot side) was not heating up; which I would have expected it to do very quickly given that the engine was still hot. After 30 seconds or so I gave it a rev with my hand on the top (hot) side of the radiator and almost burnt my hand as the super hot water in the head was pushed through into the radiator.
So before I go and buy a new water pump,I wanted to get the wise opinion of the folks here on toymods… so what do ya recon... any suggestions on what the problem could be?
Cheers,

Seconded......take off the thermostat housing...remove thermostat and see if that does anything.

That should have been the first thing I thought of.
Will pull it off tonight and see how I go.
Thanks guys.
I agree!!! thermostatt.....
take the thermostatt out and drop it in a cup of boiling water (from the kettle) see if it opens....
I wouldnt recommend driving without a thermostatt for too long...
good luck!
Yep, it was the thermostat. Replaced and running at a rock steady 89DegC.
Cheers
