check for an air leak when the motor is up at operating temp spray around the base of the carby (the butterfly shaft can wear out and leak) and vac lines if youve done everything else it might be a good place to start.
Hi, this is my first post here, please bear with me. Thanks![]()
My rona gets a rough idle and jerks/nudges while accelerating or running after driving for a while or after the engine heats up.
I have recently replaced dizzy cap, button, points, leads, plugs, ignition coil, resistor, air filter and overhauled the carby. It still happens after driving for about 20 mins. Help from anyone please? Thank you

Missing off your list is the condenser. This will play havoc with your ignition system. It is a round capacitor which mounts to the side of the distributor on the outside just under the cap. About $13. Not replacing this will also cause the new points to wear out real quick.
When the engine is cold, does it drive fine? The nudging you mention is called a miss or hesitation. Basically the car stops accellerating momentarily then gets power back.
Once you change the condenser and do the vac leak test described above, let us know if it's still an issue, but these would be the two main causes given the information you have supplied.

Thank you guys,i'll check later and buy the condenser. Hope that's it cos i'm gettin stuck
Yes it happens after driving for a while.but I could remember it once nudged when i drove it with the engine not yet warmed up.
Thanks again.
Sorry but i have another question. When i bought the dizzy cap, i asked for an 18rc dizzy cap. Found out it was a but smaller, so i went back with the sample. The guy from autobarn said i need the dizzy cap from a hilux. Does this mean i have a hilux dizzy in my rt132 corona? This is the first ever project car and i'm very keen. I'm planning to convert it to electronic ignition and i want to make sure i buy the right stuff as i am on a budget. Thanks guys for being really helpful.
There were several dizzies, and the listings aren't always right. I came across the same problem with my 1981 RA40, and like you had to get a Hilux cap. That was 10 years ago.

After few days of waiting, my ordered has arrived. All of the auto shops around my area didn't stock Bosch GD-805 condenser anymore. They had to order it from other branches. $13, you're rightinstalled it properly, checked for vacuum leaks, none were found. Hasn't missed since i've done this bit. Thanks guys! Hope you could help me with my car's other problems.
Hmmm. Doesn't hesitate anymore wyl accelerating, but the idle still changes and coughs.
Try adjusting the idle mixture screw on the base of the carby on the rocker cover side. Anticlockwise will richen it up a bit.
The idle got better for a while but then started coughing on idle after a few minutes.
How's the fuel? Fuel filter changed yet? The filters are about $8 for a Ryco unit. The 18R-C should run on any old jungle juice fine, so long as it isn't stale old stuff which has been there since the previous owner gave up on the car 10 years ago (exxageration, but you know what i'm getting at)

I hope you don't mind me hijacking,
My 18r-c idles perfect in park and neutral (sits around 800rpm)
but if i kick it into drive the rpm drops and the car starts to stutter a bit like it's going to stall.
Is the idle mixture something i should try adjusting? if so, where do i located it? under the air filter?
The engine will naturally load up when you move out of park or neutral. From memory, the idle for an 18R-C auto should be 850rpm rather than the 800rpm of a manual unit. The idle mixture screw is located below the air cleaner in the centre of the carb at the bottom near the head. There should be a depression in your air cleaner to allow the screwdriver to get down there.

Cheers for that matewas talking it over with my dad today and it just clicked then, he was apprehensive about increasing the idle mixture because it was idling nicely in park or neutral. But obviously the car is only in park or neutral after it's just been turned on or isn't on (duh)
What's the best way to adjust it? have the car in drive with the handbrake on and slowly adjust the idle mixture screw bit by bit while checking the tacho?
There is an idle stopper screw toward the firewall from the idle mixture screw. It hangs off the side of the carby. Use that only to adjust the idle speed, the idle mixture is to adjust the fuel/air mix and shouldn't be touched if you don't know what you are looking at.
To adjust the idle speed, have the vehicle in neutral with the handbrake on, and the car fully warmed up (after driving is a good time). It shouldn't take much of a turn to get the idle up, and you should 'blip' the throttle after adjustment and allow it to settle back down to test its true idle.
The factory tacho is pretty inaccurate too, so you may need to beg/borrow/buy a hand held tacho to make this adjustment (I bought a tacho/timing light/dwell meter combination unit).
