Default 1JZ into MX83 misfire at 3k rpm

a mate of mine has just installed a 1JZ, single turbo, R154 into an MX83 Cressida.
It has a serious misfire at around 3,000 RPM and from memory is bringing up fault code 14, and occasionally 10 (i'll have to confirm these fault codes again though)
Are there any common faults we should be checking for???

    code 14 is

No IGF signal to ecu for 4-7 consecutive IGT signals with engine speed less than 3000rpm

causes: 1. open or short in IGF circuit from ignitor to ECU
    2. Ignitor
    3. ECU

pull the top off the ECU and look for leaking caps, have had code 14 caused by leaky caps on 4 different 1J ECUs now.
