Yes if you want to destroy your steering rack.... Best thing you can do is get a non power steer rack and install it.
Otherwise buy a bracket + pump, small port 16v is the same
So i'm fitting a 20v into my AE82 twin cam but I don't have the power steering pump on my 20v motor.
What is involved in by-passing the power steering setup? Is it just a matter of draining as much oil as I can out of the rack and then looping the lines?
Are there any other issues I need to worry about??

Small port is the same as the silvertop? That make's it easier to get hold of one.
Why would looping the lines destroy the rack? Surely it's still going to have some oil in it lubricating it and by looping the lines it's not going to loose any oil??

You need to pump oil through, otherwise it'll just pool in there...
Will be ok short term but longer term your rack will die.
