    Default 4AGE vs 3SGE

any opinions on which is better out of the 2? advantages and disadvantages of both?
it would be going into an RA60 Celica.

capacity, more torque and power from a 3s. there is no replacement for displacement(all other things being equal)

    4a it's lighter.

    In a Celica?
Easy choice - 3SGE all the way. Get a BEAMS blacktop & 6-speed gearbox if you can, as the whole thing is set-up for RWD right from the start and they make the most power.

Probably not brand new, but you can get a motor/ front cut from most jap wreckers. Your looking at anything from $1800+ (depending on condition, what comes with it etc etc)

2ZZ is difficult to mount up longitudinally though...

If you can afford to buy a brand new Beams 3S and gearbox my advice would be to sell the Celica and buy something a lot more desirable with the performance you are after.

engine mounts, find the right bellhousing (there's a few options with different starter motor placements) if you're going to run a 5 speed, clutch and flywheel (depending on whether you're using a fwd or rwd engine), possible sump mods depending on engine, possible gearbox mounts if you run the 6 speed (i'm not sure if they mount up the same???)

beams sumps are a bitch if you need to modify, and you can't just swap them with earlier ones, internal oil galleries and pressure regulating valve need to be sorted. if you use an earlier engine you should be able to use a 2S sump, crossmember and mounts to make things easier, if not the crossmember and mounts should still work.

then wiring, fuel setup (depending on if your car was efi or carby), possible brake upgrade to get it legal.

sounds like a lot i guess but engine swaps aren't easy, and you'd have to do most of the same for a 4age swap anyway. plus you get better gearbox options (without stupidly expensive bellhousing anyway)

if you have a look through the project threads Chuck is doing this swap, have a read through his thread and ask some questions. should give you a better idea of whats involved.

    cheers
