    Default 3S-GE Camshaft Recommendations

    Hi all,

I've recently purchased myself a 1993 MR2. Looking for some recommendations on camshafts to pick it up just that little bit. Engine has no mods on it at all.

Any recommendations on specs and places to get them from is appreciated.

    Cheers,
    James

which gen motor is it? early or late 93?

if it's a gen2 3sge then you'll have to keep the lift of the cams down due to the "shim-over bucket" setup. common cams durations are 256-264-272.

obviuosly the longer duration the more topend you'll gain but the idle will be affected and low/midrange.

i'd prob go for 264's. depending on how you dial them in you won't sacrifice too much bottom end. lift will be around 9.2mm.

have a look on kelfords website for specs.

if you have the gen3 then you have shim under setup and you can run 10-11mm lift. gen3 already have 250duration 9.8mm lift stock intake cam

Thanks for the info. Should have mentioned, early 93. Engine has been swapped before I bought it so I can only guess it being a gen 2.

most likely gen2. so yeh i'd say don't go more than 264's on stock ecu etc. kelford list different cams/specs for the gen2 due to the shimover setup.

you should be able to get away without fitting upgraded springs but you'd prob want to get some adj cam gears so they can be timed in appropriately

if you want to go the whole hog you could fit upgraded springs and convert to shimless buckets and then fit hilift cams.

    Hi,

I run 288s on both sides. I did have to go to shimless buckets to do it though.

    But it can be done.

How much did the shimless conversion cost Youngy? And how much Hp/Torque did you pick up?
