I have some crazy excess play in my mx83 cressida steering rack!!

Once again i call upon you experts to lead me in the right direction!

I noticed over the last couple of days, my steering got lighter and starting steering wierd. Now i pulled to a stop and started turning left and right. My mate stuck his head out the window and the wheels arnt turning until it i turn nearly like 90" before the wheels start to move. There isnt any leaks in the rack, the fluid is still full. Funny thing is the steering is so light lol quite scary on the highway

Is the steering rack gone?

pop bonnet, see if the input shaft into the rack is turning in sympathy with the steer wheel, if not check the small uni joins connecting them up. If it is, then could be the rack or rack ends.

Get it up on jack stands and inspect before it drives you into something unsafe for human cohabitation (like a tree).

Absolutely! As above a quarter turn on the wheel before wheel movement is more than worn joints, there is something worn/broken to point of absolute failure.

found the problem!

it was the two steering rack bushes. They hold the rack down under those brackets to the chassis. They will broken into pieces and the whole rack was moving side to side lol

you cant buy aftermarket..so going down to toyota tomorrow
