    Default Busted arse clutch!

as of late ive found that my clutch is definately on its way out.. it slips under load or when u dump into a gear these days.

so i wanted to see peoples oppinions on different clutches and their applications. its in an AE82 twincam so there isnt chassis twisting power to deal with, but i was wondering if people think there is a huge advantage in heavy duty clutches... keeping in mind im saving for a new car and dont want to spend astronomical amounts on the car.

so if anyone has advice please send it my way!!!

    cheers

Were you happy with the old clutch?

If you dont want to spend a lot, just get an exchange clutch from repco and fit it yourself.
Take you about 4-5hrs without air tools, and shouldnt cost much more than 200 for pressure plate, clutch plate, and thrust bearing.

yeah i never really was pleased with the one i had, but thats probably because it may have been the origional one, i really dont know! it never had real "bite" but was easy to drive and control.

I have a heavy duty in my GZE
First time I used it, it was like trying to push a car with my foot. Now it feels like nothing at all. whatever you get, you'll get used to.

i'd prob suggest going a standard clutch on the conditions you don't do any extreme driving and it is your daily driver. If you were after something a bit heavier then step up to a standard plate with a heavier pressure plate. You'll get a bit tired of a brass/equivalent clutch if it's your daily. Plus they don't do anything good for your gearbox

Depends on your driving style and the conditions of use.

If it is just a daily driver i wouldnt go too hardcore but in saying this i used a heavy duty pressure plate with a ceramic plate fo every day use for years with no prob.

if you want to sell it then don't bother. i got a heavy duty one in mine and its fine. normal clutchs feel funny though, i nearly put my foot through the floor. I am also swapping mine out for a 5 puck because i am still not happy with it, but it has coped a bit of heat.

if you are selling your car in the future, chuck a standard clutch in it.. a HD item will put off many people who will want a standard car..

Hey i have a practically new 200mm GE clutch, which was an emergency replacement before a race day a few months ago.
I think they are about $120 new but if you want it i'll sell it to you for $30 plus postage.

is that the correct size for an AE82 with all standard running gear? and is it a standard item or a semi heavy duty one??
