    Default 4Y-E Dizzy polarity issue

    Hi
    I need some information.
I have a efi converted 4y eng, all new. The thing had no spark when I checked the coil resistance primary was fine, seconday failed 0000.
So I purchased a new genuine Toyota coil and replaced it, she fired up, alls good. Came back 15min later and "NO GO"
Pulled the new iridium plugs, they where fouled.
I turned the ign on I could hear a click from the dizzy, removed the cap, rotor button and coil cover and the main HT pin was arching out on the coil body
Pulled all the plugs, and clamped one to the head, and cranked her over.
Initially a huge blue arch, then yellow then faint intermitant yellow.
    Checked resistance and air gap in pick-ups (spec's 140 - 180ohms) mine 228ohms
Turn ignition "ON" gives 12.5v to the coil + and the coil - becomes live (12.5v)
Any help or advice would be greatly appreaciated.

    is the ignitor OK?

You will see 12V on the (-) side of the coil. Spark comes from the ignitor briefly grounding then not-grounding the (-) side of the coil.

If the resistance across the primary (+ and - terminals) is ~0.5ohms and the secondary (+ and high voltage) is around ~10k ohms, the problem isn't the coil.

    Thanks for the reply
Checked the coil and passed with flying colours, as I said its brand new and genuine Toyota. So is my igniter brand new, doesn't mean to say that it has died for some reason or faulty.
One fellow I spoke to said to look for a voltage leak to either the ignitor or coil. I do not know how much of a leak I am looking for bur between the batter and the ignition pin to the coil I loose 2.9v. Therefore I am only getting 10v to the coil with the ign key to ON and under cranking load it drops to 8v, would this make a major difference.

I have know idea as to where the leak is, some where between the battery, igntion unit back to the coil ??

check connectors from dizzi to fuesbox and back to battery? You'll get a voltage drop during cranking but the coil/ignitor should see full battery/alt voltage.

Also check your earths from battery to chassis and battery to motor.

poor connections = resistance = voltage drop.

Thanks this narrows it down abit.

Maybe I have a sad & tired wire some where that needs to be replaced

Have new 3.5mm wire from the + post to the main fuse box. maybe its between their and the kick panel fuse box.
Have new earth leads 6mm to block and chassis as well as a new 14mm earth strap from the head to the firewall.
Have a new custom made 120amp alt, software shows battery increased to 13.6v when it was running.

    Thanx for your replies mate

Would suggest running the thicker strap from the head/block direct to the battery.
