    Default MR2 V6 Conversion

Have been driving a Falcon the last couple of years but wanting to get back into a Toyota. Have had a GT4 (still do but not running), loved it but the maintenance killed me so my next choice is the MR2, during my recent googling to learn about this car I found out that it is quite easy to drop in the Toyota V6 engines....I think this is what I want to do....would be a pocket rocket with the reliability of a Camry

Has anyone here completed this conversion with a 2GRFE?

Am wanting to know if it is possible to get the traction control functioning and increase the rev limit without going aftermarket ECU.

    Cheers
    Anthony

    Take a look at twobrutal.com

Over there a bunch of guys in the UK have been putting 2GRs into MR2s for a few years now.

Interested to see your progress on this if it happens, would be a great car.

Monkey Wrench Racing in the US has also started developing a lot of performance parts for the 2GR to cater for the lotus evora market.

The major hurdle with the 2GR (apart from finding one/cost) is possibly the factory ECU, I assume it's got a coded immobiliser key which will make it difficult to wire up and maybe impossible to start without the matching key/barrel...1MZ is mucho cheaper and a nice simple conversion (assuming you're looking at an SW20)

i was thinking you might struggle with engineering but then looked up the weight of an MR2... they are a lot heavier than they look 8\

Thanks for the feedback guys, I've seen those websites and am satisfied that the conversion looks simple enough...mechanically anyway.

I have become spoiled with my latest and would like to retain functionality of the 2GR Traction and cruise control systems. However, this is not a deal breaker. Will keep scouring the web for info.

Now. just have to offload the GT4

mullet - yep will be in an SW20

xa-mont, what's the latest ruling on engine size?

Not sure, but my engineer who I saw about 2 weeks ago said they have just recently made it stricter. Best bet would be to call one up.

My mate in NZ built one. Its lighter than a 3SGTE engine.

Pretty straight forward conversion, just had to custom make the eng mounts and exhaust system. He ran a Link ECU on it.
Made 210kw atw and he pulled a 12.6@180 quarter mile with road tyres .

That's hauling! Is that in a full car, or stripped? 210kwatw is mental, but I wouldn't have thought that there'd be 40-50kw in a set of headers and ECU?

Its running a 2gr-fe from a 07 previa with a link ECU and custom made nice length stainless steel headers.
The body of the car is totally stock.

The build thread is on the NZ site but you have to join. here some pics.
He doesnt have one showing the engine installed properly. What he did was made a engine stand with 4 points as it would hold the 3sge in the eng bay. And then worked off this jig he made which replicates the engine bay as such.

nice to see that magnaflow in place, it's the same one I'm intending to use so nice to know it works well on the twos.

That does look awesome. Will have to read up on it more tonight.

Does anyone know where I can get a bare mr2 rearcut? Anyone have one leftover from a turbo conversion?

That's mental! Mucho nice. The dyno figure still seems well high, but 1/4 mile time doesn't lie!

Have the 2GRs come down in price at all? Or still uber-$$$? And...do they bolt to any common gearbox?
