Default Help - 4A-C motor in a Tercel

I realise this may be a bit low tech for you guys - sorry.

I bought a Tercel which I found had a 4A motor fitted. The head gasket blew and I took it to a local mechanic. I got it back five weeks later after having had two head re-fits (two different gaskets) and a bill that is more than 150% of the cost of the car!

Symptoms: as soon as the thermostat opens there are O2 bubbles running through the radiator. Radiator is fine, no trace of CO2 at all. At about 2,200 rpm the water stops being sucked from the radiator every four or five seconds and then restarts. Block 5mm out of flat by the way. Stripped the water pump, etc. and all is fine.

Latest theory from latest mechanic is a problem with water flow through the block. Any help greatly appreciated. I hope it's just something stupid that everyone has missed. It's a nice car.

    Thanks,

    Tasblue

block 5mm out of flat? seriously doubt this.
instead of chasing problems in this motor, why not pick up a near free or cheap ae82 with good motor and swap it in?
    good luck
