    Default KE70 Front Strut Conversion

    Hi there,
Just turning my KE70 into a race car and wondering if anyone had any info or DIY projects already done that could help with the upgrade of front struts and brakes.

Was thinking XT130 corona struts but not sure about the brakes or R31 Skyline struts and use those brakes.

Any info helps! or even if your selling anything that might help

either reply to this or email me at [email protected]

unsure if XT130 strut is the same as AE86 but if they do, a brake upgrade option you can go is RX7 caliper. either FC or FD will do. AJPS makes the bracket to fit them to the strut. i got a local machine shop fab them for me.

    in short you'll need.

    1. AE86 strut (or XT130 if they're identical, which i think they are. a quick search should give you the answer)
    2. RX7 FC or FD front calipers
    3. 80 series Land Cruiser brake master cylinder --> this bolts in easily to my Daihatsu Charmant. They also bolt in to AE86. Not sure on KE70 but willing to bet they do. Major upgrade in cylinder diameter. KE70s i think is around 13/16 inch while LC is a full inch. You'll need this to punch those extra pistons on RX7 calipers.
    4. Civic EG/EK rotor. Measure that they're 262mm in diameter.
    5. Uprated brake booster? Not sure about which donor car to choose. I haven't done it and really feel that i should.
    6. If the pads are worn, 80 series Land Cruiser pads can also fit in directly to these calipers.

More info on my blog here.

As for strut upgrade, i'd go with short stroke conversion. Cheap and reliable if done properly. I'm using T3 parts but i think AJPS has the parts also. I'm going with 6kg front and 4.5 kg rear and it's already damaging my kidney but i think race cars should go with at least 8kg FR and 6 kg RR.

Anything seem awkward on my setup, do let me know.

Ae86 struts are a good start as they have a heap of good spring/shock and coil over options... dont forget you will have to get ae86/xt130 steering arms to get struts to work.
Also jdm ae86 brakes are a good cheap brake upgrade.

Hey mate, yeh I'm doing the same thing with my ke70.

I can second the AE86 front struts option, easy and cheap. I've just put AE86 front coilovers into my KE70. YOu will need the ae86 strut tops for the coily's too. On the steering side of things, I just extended the lenght of my std ke70 steering arms as there was plenty of thread left (when you put the coilys in you get 'toe out' so you need to extend the arms a bit) so I don't understand why everyone says you need ae86/xt130 steering arms??!

I also used the AE86 front calipers as an easy bolt on upgrade too

ae86 struts require ae86 steering arms to fit

as above - not a problem with the length only the bolt spacing under the strut - think you are thinking of tie rod ends/rack ends not steering knuckle arms...

I always thought S13 struts and LCA were the accepted option?

Cheap and easy brake upgrades if you do though. And would recommend modding the stock nissan LCA (shortening) as you will end up with some epic camber.
