Have you remove few bolts at the oil sump, just underneath the timing cover?
I've been trying to remove timing chain cover on my TA22 2T engine and having trouble removing. All bolts are removed, seems as if builder has used quantities of blue permatex between cover and sump. Can lever top out but can't slide off locating pins at bottom.
Any ideas how to remove. Also engine is in car. Need to remove to replace worn chain and tensioner.
Thanks in advance

CHB. Yes I have removed them. The cover movse just can't move it forward off locating pins.
you have to get a flat blade and pry it out. you can hardly damage the timing cover, its quite robust...
Thanks for replies CHB. I was going to try using a flat blade as you said but wasn't sure if I could damage the alloy housing easily.
Hmm.. try to get a rubber mallet and tap the edge of the timing cover all the way round, then use a wooden stick and find an edge where you can actually whack the timing cover open from the block side.
As a side note but still related and something to keep in mind; does the front of the head gasket sea a section of the timing cover? I've heard this can cause issues if you accidentally damage the gasket whilst removing/installing the cover!
I know mine's leaking from that area![]()

I finally got it all back together. Thanks to all for their advice.
I used a big flat blade and levered behind water pump, then levered with two smaller flat blades with rounded corners down near the locating pins until it eventually released.
It's amazing how quiet engine runs and smoother at idles, chain must been worse than I thought.
