Default oil pressure & temp gauges: questions about how to

I'm looking at fitting both an oil temp and oil pressure gauge to my car.

I've got idea where abouts I should fit them to though.

I'm about to remove the sump because it needs resealing to the block.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Also any advice regarding where to get some decent ones because they will be used for racing & in a harsh environment

this is for the Hyundai Rally barge?

A - use the port in the block where the current oil sender is. flex line to a brass/alloy block mounted somewhere and screw the new gauge's pressure sensor into that.

B - fit external cooler sandwich adaptor between oil filter & block, get adaptor that has two extra holes in the return-to-engine side, screw in temp and pressure sensors into those holes. That way you read the pressure/temp of the oil going into the main oil gallery and you have maybe 1 or 2 seconds more notice of running out of oil pressure.

Suggestion? fit a variable pressure sensor into the factory port and put a low-pressure switch @ the filter/adaptor. Then fit yellow truck-type side-running light to centre of console and wire it up to the sensor.

Yes it is. I wish there were other places I could ask these kind of questions about my non Toyotas, but on some other forums, people aren't so willing to help for some reason.

The existing oil pressure light sender is on the front of the block, below & beside the exhaust manifold, and also beside the clutch slave, so there's a bit of room for adaptors, etc.

personally, I'd avoid attaching an adaptor to the oil pressure port (to fit multiple sensors there) - two things out on the end of a small chunk of metal that's attached to a noisy vibrating engine is not ideal. Flexible hose off to a simple block of alloy acting as a manifold and attach pressure sensors there. No need to worry about any trapped air between block and sensors.

Otherwise, I have seen these things:

but with extra holes tapped into the return port/section allowing fitting of sensors.

downside is the filter standing proud by the thickness of the adaptor. Upside is you get a full-flow oil cooler (and a lighter wallet).

Sorry, but confused by your description (spose it's the reason I started this thread).
Flexible line off existing port I get, but do you mean to make it long enough so alloy block is mounted on the car, or still mounted to the engine?
If there is a length of hose, isn't the oil going to get trapped in there, giving false readings?

Got no plans on fitting an oil cooler. Others have done it to this engine and it's of no benefit. And the sandwich plate is probably the most expensive part.

Mount block in the chassis not motor.

Air isn't an issue for pressure sensors. But, this approach won't work for temp. Tap the sump for a sensor?

for oil pressure i run a T adaptor out of my block then another T ontop of that (so there is a tower of two T's)
the lower one comes out of the block, 1 outlet has the stock oil switch in it , the other goes straight up to the other T, the top T has the oil pressure gauges line, and the 1 coming out of the top, has a steel line running out of it, around the back of the block and to the turbo.

this is on my old worn out 3t-t, its my daily, the idle is ruff and the motor shacks around alot, only problem ive had is oil pressure gauge line started leaking, now im swaping to a elec sender unit, but as its larger i might brace it in some way as it will have more weight on it.

ill get a pic up when i find/take one.

its not ideal to have lots on adaptors and that hangin off one 1/8th fitting though. but saying that so far so good for me.

oh and its been like that for over a year now, i also drive down a gravel bumpy road every day also.

you can still buy VDO mechanical guages in water oil temp and oil pressure .but on mine i use the metal sump for oil temp 1 inch off the bottom and also use the std oil pressure point for oil ,but mines a altezza sump with oil hole near filter caldina has oil pressure near top of head to far find a nother oil pick up closer or as chuck has said use alloy spacer to take pressure from this

T-pieces off the stock oil pressure sender are fine as long as they are BRACED. This stops them from snapping off due to vibrations.

If you dont want to run a sandwich plate this is how i would do it.

How nicely is your oil filter located?? Remembering you will be changing it often. If it is in a prick of a spot (I remember the single cam excelerators had a good spot for the oil filter, not sure about the twin cams) then a remote oil filter mount even without the cooler would be a good thing. This then gives you the ports for oil pressure and temp at the filter away from the block (assuming you purchase one with the ports drilled in).

Otherwise, oil temp in the sump would be a reasonable spot, and the remote pressure sender/switch with the flexible hose sounds viable (the air trapped will compress until it reaches the oil's pressure).

If you plan on hotting up the motor any, then an oil cooler isn't such a bad idea. Depends on the class restrictions of course (of which I don't have the details, just wish they ran that class of rally up here...)

    thats what mine looks like.

oh and my 4wd it done the same way, it been like that for years and has nothing but ruff roads/tracks thrown at it.

I'm not trying to hijack this thread (don't wanna open NEW thread for same question)

    my situation is :
    i got earls oil cooler with mocal remote thermostat in AE86(16v-4age), wanna install mechanical oil temp and pressure gauges ;
looked every where for greddy sandwich-plate but couldn't find one.
Does any one know where i can get sandwich-plate for 4age(call few places but couldn't find any suites for 4age) which i can connect 2 sensors.

i really appreciate if some one can give some ideas.
