I've seen a couple of pics on the net... of a particular Ford Escort. I would like a brief rundown of what happened from someone that was there and saw it.
Yeah, you're exactly right Ian, by the end of the day the track wasn't too congested.
Any get any piccies from this day?

I didn't see it, but accounts I've heard from others out on the track is that the escort driver was being pretty erratic prior to the incident.
When it happened he was passing on the outside of a corner and turned into the corner and clipped the inside car (you're not actually allowed to pass through corners on a funday). Was only tiny contact but enough to unweight the escort and it ended on it's lid. Looking at the car afterwards, the driver and passenger were VERY lucky to get away un-injured.

Yes, that was the description that i got also. And after seeing the damage to the 'inside car' it would appear that the contact was fairly minor and the escort was very much unweighted at the time.

Idiots....always has to be a couple who just put the fear of god into people...that said the people who run the day are good at weeding them out early on in the piece....good to hear that it was the culprit who sustained the damage and not the innocent party

My internet trolling came up with these...
Also, it was mentioned that two other cars caught fire that day. A smoking falcon can be seen in a youtube vid taken from the dashcam of a VK Commodore.

I think that smoking falcon was just steaming. I drove passed a falcon that had steam pissing out after he spun out coming up the hill. Didn't look damaged, so I guess he dropped his fluid which spun him out.
The real knobs of the day were in a group of early falcon and commodores, holding everyone up so they could crawl into corners and lay rubber on the exits. Got warnings early on, but the killer was when they stopped on the hill and started doing standstills for about a minute... smoking the place out and holding up the whole field. He got asked to leave, but as it was a group of gutless wonders, they formed a mob to run down to the stewerds and threaten him. Fortunately they all got the arse, and we had 6 less wankers to deal with for the rest of the day![]()

and there were a few complaints about the way he was driving , added to that his car was handling like a bag of shit
nostalgia is not what it used to be:
