    Default Coilovers

    Hi all,

I need some help deciding in what struts/shocks/calipers to use in my KE10.

I have a few requirements, First is I need to use these Peugot Discs.

Second one is I need to keep a 4x110 stud pattern to match my cut down diff.

I have done a lot of reading, I was intending on doing XT130 struts, Pug discs and hilux/landcruiser calipers.. although I think it is probably abit of an overkill.

I believe i'm after a strut with 51mm dia tube so I can run ae86 or similar shocks. I will be using a HSD sleeve kit with adjustable top hats. Also I think I'm after struts with KPI of around 8-9... but it doesn't really matter as I got adjustable LCA's and I will have adjustable top hats. I'm not worried about making custom brackets on the strut either.

So what strut/hub combination do I use?

    Regards Jordain

I went with the AE86/KE70 front end on mine so i could ditch the 4x110 stud pattern....i went with a narrowed skyline diff for the rear. If you are committed to the 4x110 it will be tricky up front i suspect?

RX7 also run 4x110 (early ones?), and i have seen RX7 struts in a 10 before.

hmm, usually the dsic is the last thing to think about.. or second last, before the caliper bracket

anyway, now you have the discs, you need to find a hub that is either 4x110 (KE10 or mazda), or has enough meat on the back to be able to drill to 4x110 (unlikely/custom), and then use a strut that the hub fits on, then make the strut fit...

I just bought a KE16 wagon and it's got a shortened RX3 diff to 4x110.. I also have 4x110 Simmons rim's so, I think I will be staying with the 4x110 stud pattern.

Early Rx7 struts sound like a good idea, My main worry is not being able to get good short stroke shocks to suit the KE10 because I believe I will be cutting the strut a fair bit and getting good shocks may be troublesome.

Do you have any information about RX7 struts in a 10?

    Thanks guys!

The other thing to remember is... I have a cut down KE70 rack and pinion cross member with standard KE70 LCAs at the moment, but they need shortening to somewhat standard length.

I may consider using Saab chasers and dumping the simmons onto another KE1x of mine.

    they were RX7, i think series 1?, on a KE20 xmember and LCA's.
afaik, those RX7 discs are integral with the hubs?
    thats abotu all i know..

FWD shocks are often short no? or MR2 rear shocks?

    the saabs are 4x108?

how is the KE70 cross-member cut down?
you need to match the rack width to the distance between the LCA pivots.. (not same distance, just same relative distance as stock)

since you have the pug discs, why not do the XT130 strut, pug discs, and get some lighter calipers...??
how wide is the pug disc?

lots of options for 4 spots that aren't made of cast iron...

The rack and width of the cross member is all standard KE70... only difference is it's been " trimmed " and had some squash tubes welded into it with some 45x45x5mm right angle welded on the ends and welded up.

XT130 strut is what I was going to go with... but I can't seem to get my hands on XT130 struts anywhere

What do you recomended for calipers, I was looking at early RX7 calipers like below but they still look heavy.. but a lot smaller than Landcruiser. Car only weighs about 740kg or something around that so I don't think braking will be a problem.. it's only 100kw 4age motor !

    from vague memory.. RX7 calipers = 2.5kg, Nissan 300ZX/R32 = 3.6kg and landcruiser = 5kg+?
the nissans are available in to suit 26 and 30mm discs.. the RX7 are to suit thinner than 30mm but can't remember, and not sure what the pug disc is

a 2 pot sliding caliper will probably not weigh less (esp if it is steel/iron) and you may as well put something nice

for example.. ST205 4 pot alloy = 5kg (ie, heavy).
    ST202 sliding 2 pot = 6.5kg

    Hi all ,

I'm also playing with a ke10 frontend at the moment, it had chopped ke20 lowered springs/ke10 spring hats with unknown pedders inserts (springs not captive).
Have tried ke20 spring hats but haven't found springs to get a decent ride height & remain captive.

Can someone help with part no's or vehicle from with dimensions for shorter travel inserts for 48mm od struts please ?

we have got a ke20 front crossmember/arms/struts/radius rods & brackets sitting here that we are thinking of using if need be.

    Cheers Drew

I have RX calipers for mine but also a pair of new commo 2 spot sliders. 2 spots are lighter with more pad area (rotors are Nissan patrol 297mm), new and cheaper and will make wheel fitment a heap easier as caliper clearance is easy.....dunno, 4 spots are cool but the simpler 2 spots make sense

how heavy are the commo 2 pots?

as for shocks, KE20/30 are 1" shoter than KE10.. not a whole lot but a bit shorter.. and same small diameter

Put the Ke20 front end into it, then get ae86 struts and weld a HSD sleeve kit onto it.. this gives you the 51mm inserts

    Thanks,
still undecided on the ke 20 gear ,was trying to keep steering simple & i don't have the ke20 pitman arm.

would like to know if anyone has 1st hand experience with a 4ag ke10 as we would prefer to do suspension & steering once.
Does anyone have dimensions of the early aw11 rear struts ? aren't they shorter again than ke20 ?
