    Oil cooler - AE92 bypass vs full flow

    I have been using the bypass style oil cooler on my 4A-GE as common on the AE92 (plus stock single core rad in cool Tassie) and everything was working very well, I think. The car is off the road at this time and I'm rethinking setup. I forgot, what was the good reason for going to a race style full flow oil cooler?

    Full flow is the worst thing you can do in a cold climate. you won't ever get your oil up to temp. Even pressure bypass should be left alone. Get a thermostatic inline adapter that only runs the oil cooler when your oil gets hot. That way - faster warm up times and more stable engine temp.

    look into a thermostatic controlled adapter - Mocal is the one I use. It allows the oil to warm up



    the black threaded section is the thermostat

    That's a good picture. Some oil cooler adapters don't fit the 4A too well. It's handy to know a brand that works.
