Either the targa top goes or the car goes. I've had it with this POS targa top.
Now people get roof replacements done all the time, could such a procedure be done to repair a vehicle that has been damaged by an aftermarket targa top conversion?

It's certainly possible, anything is, but cost-wise you're better off selling it and getting another one. It will cost a massive amount of money (many thousands, easily) and will not add any value to the vehicle.
Must.... avoid.... urge... to... upgrade... parts I haven't.... used.... yet.....
i have a wrecked (engine/ interior/ front panels) targa top out the back with the entire roof still in tact.
pm me.
What's wrong with the targa desty?

Noisy. Leaky. Extra weight. less rigid and it just plain looks shit.
Repair it with fire.
A targa top is always a bad thing.

Haha, the ultimate solution
I guess you've got 2 options: sell and start again, or buy a really clean MA61 shell and swap all the parts over...
The cost of cutting out and welding up the targa would be more than the cost of doing so by a long way, and it'll never be 'right' again...

Re shell, not liking the idea of a roof swap $$ wise.
The problem is then I'd have dramas with the car not being legal with the v8.
Personally I think the targa top makes the car look even better.
When I had mine I was going to take it to a specialist and get it rebuilt, but ended up selling it.
I also spoke to my engineer about making the chassis stiffer, whether it was possible etc, and he reckons it is possible, quite easily too.
Just wait till a nice spring day, or a cool summers arvo. The targa top is the shizniz in that weather.
Sucks ass in winter though, I used to drive around with 4 towels draped over me, keeping me dry

When i overhauled the car, i spoke to some sunroof specialists. They reckoned it was because the targa panels weren't sealing tightly against the roof. The seals have compressed over the years and gone hard. They recommended using window sealant/sikaflex to built the layer of rubber up to make a tighter seal. It did reduce the amount of water alot. It could of worn away. That was over 3 years ago.

haha, my MR2 had that. Stopped the leak, made everything stick together. You can't replace the seals?
Desty: Buy mine and sell yours

Because its an aftermarket installation from the mid 80's, there are no spare parts available.
You may be able to find a specialist who can remake the seals, which was my plan.

Hmmm, yeah. You couldn't use some pre-formed seal and glue it in place (I haven't seen the seals..you probably can't...)
