Default Rt132r Corona carby rebuild and engine change

    Hey guys,

Picked up myself an 1980 RT132R Corona liftback to play with. Only done 205000 when I got which I think is pretty good for the age of this beast.
Anyways thinking of rebuilding the Carburetor and giving it a good clean as I see how dirty she is and she sounds very dirty when you drive her cold etc.
Does anyone know which sort of Carby rebuild kit I would need its an 18r-c engine! any special tools etc and any good rebuild manuals as I've looked everywhere on the net and havnt found much. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

    Cheers

Ps. Any Suggestions regarding what engine i could replace the 18r-c with too give it more give! On a tight budget aswell so any tips wud b great

    Hi,

Probably runs an aisan carby. You can buy rebuild kits for these carbs. I'm sure there's a few places over in WA that can get them for you. The 18R-C used a few different types of carby, so you need to find the model/type number or go searching the net. Then buy the relevant kit for that model carby. No specialised tools, other than screw-drivers and carby cleaner (clean it down fully while you are taking it apart) etc are required. You just need to be patient, methodical and capable of reading instructions. Also, a clean work surface where you can put the bits and make sure you put all the bits back in the right order/place. Good idea is to take pics as you pull it apart so you can validate your re-assembly process.

The best performance upgrade for an 18R-C is to put in an 18R-G. How good an 18R-G engine you get is usually dependant upon how much you have to spend and pot luck. A lesser upgrade would be to add twin webbers, or something like that, to your existing engine. The manifold for this conversion is often for sale on eBay, and then yuo need to purchase the actual carbys, then connect it all etc etc. So, bit of work and some dollars spent, but it will give you a little more oomph in your 18R-C.

You'll need a choke if you go the 18R-G method, and maybe also if you go the twin webber route. Need to fabricate throttle linkages if you put in an 18R-G, and maybe also need some fab work if you go the twin webbers.
