Default Will running rich screw up a new engine?

As some of you might know, (mainly the GT4 guys), I recently put a rebuilt 3SGTE into my car. I was having massive fuelling problems, and have not driven the car yet, as it hasn't been able to run well enough to drive.

I installed a Wolf 3d today, the plug and play version with the base map for the GT4, and I managed to get the car to start and rev, just very rich. What I want to know, is will this damage my new engine, and cause it to not run in properly? I just want to be able to drive it and get it run in, and then have it tuned for power.

Running rich for short periods of time will not harm it, but running it rich for long periods of time will. I get the impression that this is only a temporary thing so if you plan on leaning it out after you get it run in and sorted then that should be fine. Keep in mind that if you run it rich for an extended period of time it will foul plugs and leave a bit of carbon in the motor.

I plan on getting it tuned properly after the engine is run in, if that will be ok for the motor. Basically I am just getting fed up with the car sitting here, and it's tough finding time to get it tuned. So yeah, the rich running would only be to get it run in and not much more.
Not worried about the plugs at this stage, have just got cheapies in it for now, once she is ready to be tuned, I'll stick some colder Iridiums in, and the bigger injectors I have here.

AFAIK running it rick while running a motor in will glaze the bores. (and consequently fuck them up for good)

Have a search around and you'll find better facts about this.

Personally I plan to tow my car to the dyno shop, and tune it from there.

yup, petrol washing oil off the bore = more wear.... maybe faster running in? maybe rooted...

run it in on the dyno (of course there are various opinions for running in etc)

Hmm yeah I thought this would be the case. Damned car is not likely to be running this century then!

Am I likely to have stuffed it up already, just from running it for short amounts of time, and trying to start it when it was so rich it would hardly start?

not likely... fwiw, i ran my poor little 4K for maybe 20-30Kkm with a really rich carb... heaps of blowby.
put it on EFI, tuned it by hand, and blowby stopped no idea about the bores tho

for short times, it is probably ok.... but why not just tune it a bit less rich?? start with idle and no load, lean it to just above stoich, and then slowly work your way up in load... or just tow it to dyno, have them run it in there

I don't know the first thing about tuning, so it will be tuned by pro's
Might ask them about running it in on the dyno, if it's not going to cost me hours and hours of dyno time.

whats the generall consensus about running in time? is 1000k's enough?

this thread is very helpful to me too, as im in the process of rebuilding, and after i had my injectors serviced the guy told me they came up 4ml... which is apparently huge. so its going to run really rich aswell... maybe i should get a temporary run in tune done???

4mls? as in 4cc/min vs 365cc/min of stock GZE injectors?

    as for running in... motoman.

Yeah I'm going to kind of follow motoman's guide, but keep my redline down for the first couple hundred km's, and try keep it off boost as much as I can, while still loading the engine up.

Comes with a base map already, I considered asking around but I don't think anyone would have a map apart from the base one, or a proper maximum power tune for their car.
