Default Confirm this W5x Gearbox W58?

Pulled this box from an RA28 with a 1ggze conversion.
Trying to identify it correctly. Printed a degree wheel, attached to output shaft and rotated input shaft by hand, came up with the following ratios
Accurate to around 5 degrees I'd guess.

    Gear__deg/r__ratio

    1____110___3.273
    2____190___1.895
    3____283___1.272
    4____360___1.000
    5____457___0.788
    R____96____3.750

Going from the information found on this forum the closest box it matches is a W58.

The main reason I want confirmation is that 1ggze only came auto, so the box is not from this engine, w58 seems overkill for a 1ggze, and most 58's have a steel sandwich plate? This ones all aluminium.

Are the steel plates interchangeable with the alum, and is there much benefit?

    Thanks

W58 would be ideal for a 1GGZE and the alloy plate W58 box will more than strong enough. There's more than a few threads here discussing the relative strengths of W5x gearboxes. Here's an old one.

They start to fail when you bolt them up to torque monsters like 2JZGTEs.

Only reason to pull yours apart would be stuffed synchros or broken gears. Looks like you;ve got a good example - just replace the front and rear seals then install it and do skids.

    At 10 rotations I have 4597/3600 = a 5th gear ratio of 0.783 looks to be a w58, ex 1ggte ?

Have read a fair few threads on w58's just not many that cover the specific differences between steel plate and alum. plate 58's or if they are interchangeable.

The 1ggze is on the way out to make room for a more skid-worthy 1uz.

Hopefully the 600/700kg less weight in comparison to a uzz soarer will let the W58 live a bit longer.

unless your flat shifting a dragging it will be fine.
Norbies 2JZGTE ma61 lunched a few w58s and i remember reading something about the steel plate ones lasting a bit longer. He eventually fitted a V161 to eliminate the issue
