    Default 1UZ-FE timing belt

My timing belt idler bearings are getting noisey on my 1uz and my waterpump started leaking and then stopped so i'am collecting to do the whole waterpump, timingbelt, seals and bearings job, i saw a kit on ebay from the US and it has the lot in a kit for $221, it also has a few gaskets which i probly don't need to replace but will be handy. My question is has anybody used one of these kits? And if so any probs with using a non genuine belt etc? Any help would be much appreciated-thanx Mick

The Dayco Kit comes in 2 parts (the tensioner doesn't come with the main kit).
Its about $320 for the lot (belt, seals, bearings - $200, tensioner - $120)

It seems that noone does a complete kit with waterpump and hyd tensioner combined, the kit i was gonna get $220 had a Mitsuboshi brand timing belt which they state in the add that Toyota use, but after checking out what Litldv8 told me i found a kit from cnsautoparts that has what i need for $145. I asked the Question with the $220 kit if they could substitute the waterpump for the hyd tensioner (already got a wtrpump) and they said they are the same price so yes they could do that, Just waiting on cnsautoparts to answer that same question and i'll get theirs i reckon, I can get cheap postage from the US so it'll be heaps cheaper than getting it from here.

I just completed doing my 1uz soarer timing belt change (again). I went to BSC/CBC bearing shop (refer part no# from Soarercentral) and got all the bearings (2x timing inc 2 idle bearings) and seals (front and cams) and drive belt for $130 (Trade).

Majority of the cost was the 2 timing bearings which cost roughly $45-50 trade. It is possible to do just timing belt, all seals and timing bearings (basic timing kit except hydraulic tensioner) under $200 if you ask for trade/best price and willing to drive around to get the parts (also if lucky cheaper with no receipt and whats on ebay).

I recommend getting the genuine belt (approximate $40) which has all the timing marks on it as no matter how I did the belt it always ended 1 tooth out. Also I would get the genuine pump (approximate $140-150 aftermarket is similar in price) which had all the extra seals and I know it will not have issues for anther 100000km.

In total it cost me well under $500 to do it complete package (iridium plugs and new rotor and dizzy).

I did not change the hydraulic tensioner as it was still in good condition and there was no leaks (did the timing on my GS300 a month ago and that done well over 300000km). I think that items are not essential if it does not leak and still in working order.

Doing a major timing on the UZ is not cheap as the JZ to do the whole package but the soarer gave me 100000+km (GS-150000+km) worry free driving so it was a small price to pay to do the whole lot.

    Cheers.
