    Default 1JZ vs 1UZ manual conversion using R154 or Z20 W58

    Hi guys,
I'm new to this forum, been playing with driftcars for a bit and always fancied a manual soarer. I currently have a 1UZ auto soarer and a 1JZ auto soarer and have the complete R154 kit for the 1JZ ready to go in

    My questions are :

1- what parts from the R154 kit would fit the 1uz if I decide to put it on the v8? Is it just the bell housing? or would the flywheel, clutch assembly, prop etc all need to be different

2- I also have a complete manual conversion W58 taken from the GZ20 soarer, will I be able to use the prop, pedals, clutch assembly etc in the JZZ30 either the 1JZ or 1UZ? Or is the whole kit useless to me? Im guessing the bell housing will be totally wrong

    Any help appreciated

You will need a clutch, flywheel/bolts and spigot bearing for the UZ obviously

The other parts depend on which way you want to go

You can use the auto bellhousing and get an adaptor plate to mate it to the R154 or you can get an off-the-shelf UZ-R154 bellhousing from a couple of places.

Depending on the above you can use the 1JZ clutch fork/bearing, or you can use (or will need) a hydraulic release bearing

In any case, you can use the 1JZ prop, gearbox mount, master cyl, slave cyl (if applicable), pedal(s) (you can mod the auto brake pedal, or use the manual one if you have it), gearstick surround...pretty much anything that came off the factory manual car

I bought a JZZ30 manual halfcut to do my conversion, as you can see it works out by far the best way to do it as most stuff you need just bolts straight in and after you sell off the 1JZ and other bits you dont need it works out relatively cheap too

    Thanks for that
Which bell housing set up did you go for? What clutch fork/bearing set up did you go for?

I think I am more tempted to manual the V8 then supercharge that as there are less of them around than the 2.5TT

I used the auto bellhousing with an adaptor plate, and a hydraulic release bearing running off the standard JZZ30 clutch master cyl

Also see v-eight.com for info on conversion plates, and in the 'toymods sponsors' section of the classifieds there's a v-eight.com section. There's all the info you need about physically adapting a 1UZ to an R154 or W58 right there...

You can reuse the JZ-R154 bellhousing with the right adaptor. I'm not sure where the drawings for said adaptor are though.
If you reuse the JZ-R154 bellhousing, then you can reuse the clutch, you'll just need to get a custom flywheel made to suit the clutch. Probably only worth considering if the clutch is brand new and exactly what you want.

Personally I'd go with the auto 1UZ bellhousing with appropriate adaptor, hydraulic release bearing, Extreme twin-plate carbon clutch.

Any ideas if I can use the W58 conversion from the Z20 soarer in one of the JZZ30/JZZ31 soarers? Is the prop, pedals, clutch assembly etc the same?
