Hello guys, 1st post on here - please be gentle
I have just purchased a Corolla AE86 Levin Kouki (JDM import) and used it for the first time yesterday to travel to work and back. I had to drive home without a clutch (pulled off from junctions by starting in gear etc lol) and when I got home took a look under the bonnet to find no hydraulic fluid in the clutch master cylinder. I haven't had time to look under the car but I'm assuming it's the slave cylinder that's leaking. I've taken a look on ebay etc and there isn't any for sale, so my question is, are there any other model cars fitted with the same slave cylinder?
Also, the rear axle is whining loudly. I mean proper loud, I drove it 280 miles home when I bought the car at the weekend and ended up with ringing in my ears all night. I'm gonna replace the diff but don't know wether it is a Zenki or Kouki axle. The plate on the firewall says T282 but it has been fitted with an LSD. I don't know wether someone has just fitted a LSD to the existing axle or fitted a complete axle from a different car. Is there any way to tell from the outside of the casing if it's a Zenki or Kouki item?
Thanks for any help.
Hiyo. Welcome aboard.
The slave cylinder is the same as RA40 celica IIRC (could be RA60 though). Other members may be able to tell you other cars it's shared with.
Kouki / Zenki axle is a bit harder to discern without pulling the axles out. Unless the diff has been swapped, a kouki car (late build, generally 86 - 87) will have a kouki diff with kouki axles, and a zenki car (early build, generally 83-85) will have a zenki diff with zenki axles.
If it's whining like buggery it's more likely a problem with the how crownwheel and pinion are meshing, i.e. too much clearance. - likely to be from when the LSD was installed. If i were you, i'd take the diff center out, give it to a gearbox and diff shop and say 'fix it'. Or take the whole car there and save getting your hands dirty. This will probably work out to be about the same price as a complete 2nd hand diff anyway.
