Default Replacing driveshaft seal on S54 box

This is the final step in converting my Celica to Beams power.

The driveshaft seal is leaking, so I've pulled the axle out but just can't work out how to remove the seal.

Is there a trick to it? Also, are there any tips on getting the new seal back in there?

    Thanks
    Shane.

Just use a flat head screwdriver on an angle to 'pop' the seal out

The new seal should go in relatively easy enough, just put a smear of grease on it first and pop it in (with a little force). Be careful the spring on the inner race of the seal doesn't pop out though... that has happened to me before and I didn't realise until putting oil back in

    Thanks for that.

I still can't get the bloody thing out though. I tried on my spare S54 and it came out with the screwdriver and a reasonable amount of force, but the one in my car just won't budge. I tried using a piece of solid metal tube, bashed the crap out of it with a mallet and the seal still won't move at all.

    Any other ideas?

Soak it in WD 40 Overnight, Then got some cold spray and spray the seal and imediatly remove it.

If this doesnt work repeat, but heat the outside of the gear box up slightly with some lp gas or oxy.

If this dont work you may have more serious problems...

    Hope this helps,

    Ryan

Ended up just buying a seal puller for $15. Popped the seal out straight away!
