Default removing engine mounts from cross member.

hello, i purchased some engine mount inserts that are supposed to replace the old one's, however I think it's unlikely they will come out. Theyre st165 mounts.
Just wondering if other people have had much success getting these out.

On most cars the whole mount is replaceable and unbolts from the crossmember - the metal surround and the rubber are fused together.

If your new mounts need to insert into the old metal mount then cut as much of the rubber mount out as you can, and then burn the rest out.

Drill 50 holes in the rubber to make the center fall out. Get a jigsaw or a hacksaw to cut the outer steel cup back till its really thin and smash the edge of the cut with a punch and it'll fall out. Tiny bit of grease to help the new bush tap in and your laughing.

ahh cool. I thought the old bush would have its own metal casing and that it would have to come out aswell. Didn't think to check to see if it would fit by just removing the rubber.
    thanks.

you still have to remove the metal casing of the bush, by removing the rubber this allows access to cut the metal case and knock it out, once you cut and knock it out you can then press the new bush in

I don't believe engine mounts have an inner steel tube, pretty sure they are stuck straight to the metal mount.

Suspension bushes do have the metal sleeve so maybe thats what you're thinking of.

you can see in the pic there are 2 metal rings
spray it with crc and leave for about 24 hours
then heat the outer ring with an lpg torch and you will be able to knock the old mount out

    Sorry you've right.

Before knocking that out I'd measure the ID of that sleeve, and the OD of the bush - you may need to keep the sleeve in the mount for the bush to fit, so it would be pointless knocking it out, and even worse if you damaged it.
