Default mini truck 94 hilux with SR20det can i awd with 4wd running gear

I know this is a bit of a big job, but i am thinking is it ganna make for a better daily drive cause its a 400 hp create motor and i know im ganna have traction issues. I have a huge variety of 4wd and 2wd cars around as donnors cause i wreack both 2 and 4wd as a hobby. I have a few very knowlageable people around me like boileys etc if it was me id just buy a supra but the missus has her heart set on a mini truck (she races speedway and is a better driver than me and most of me mates so leave those comments behind pls) thanks i got a bit of an idea but it seams there is something i may have missed because i thought some one woulda done it before.

Would offroad 4WD hardware cope with being run fulltime 4WD and at high speeds? (i doubt it) Also, joining the gearbox to transfer case would be a major headfuck.

Maybe adapting the AWD gearbox & running gear from a GTR skyline would be a better approach - at least you'd be using 100% nissan hardware for the motor, box & transfer.

The biggest problem with a 4WD box is you won't have proper torque biasing because there is no center diff like an AWD system. When turning the outside front wheel is spinning faster than the inside, which in turn loads up the diff which transfers it's load to the transfer case. Most AWD systems designed for the street have an open wheeler center diff or a computer to control front / rear torque split where the transfer case is, so rather than the transfer case taking the beating, which can be considered a locked center diff, the power can distributed to the other wheels without the front and rear shafts having to spin at the same speed.

The Group B Audi Quattro rally car's were the first vehicles to run a center diff and the corner speed improvement was astonishing.

I understand what your saying but i was more thinking just for fun (burnout, drags etc) just run it around in 2wd most of the time and then for events etc can put it into 4H and do somethin a bit diff. Its ganna be a promotional car but the missus will be drivin it around to do the bankin etc. its never ganna be a good handleing car, i mean its a comercial vehicle.
I wanna cut my teeth on something like this because i wanna start building a rock crawler and havin to stuff around with diff work thats a bit outside the box might be just what the doctor ordered. At least this way my ability might catch up with my ego before i try building my truck hahaha

In straight lines it'll last a while.

I've recently been helping a mate with an SR in a feroza. The options I found for a 4WD gearbox is a KA24 4WD box with an SR20 bellhousing (not confirmed but the bellhousing gaskets are the same, may need input shaft mods), or aftermarket W5X - SR bellhousing and a G54 from an 80's hilux. Either of which are questionable in strength and will be very short in gearing for a turbo motor. Have a bit of a google, there's some good pics.

GQ patrols ran an RB30E - I think So I'm guessing for a tough gearbox get one of them and couple it with an RB to SR20 pattern adapter plates that many powerful SR's end up after lunching 10 standard gearboxes.

Would be a cool conversion. If you were to go down the 4wd path, using a 1JZ/2JZ and R150/R151 box would be so much easier.... Gearbox bolts on, use a standard trans mount from a surf or other R-box Hilux and then the front/rear shafts will work.... no custom shit and the 4wd drivetrain will have a half a chance of survival...

Mini truck with locking hubs, 6 stud and low range.... sick!!!

Im sorry mate but there is no way in the world you would fit a 4X4 box transfer case and diffs in a 2wd hilux chassis and have it anymore than about 10" off the ground. The front diffs sit under the motor on hiluxs so unless its super high(as in normal 4wd spec) then its not going to fit im afraid. 4WD hilux diffs sit underneath the leaves and 2wd ones sit on top. Suf chassis could be used for coil rear end etc but is not going to be a mini truck anymore is it. Just put your serious motor into 4wd hilux would be alot of fun.
