1uz missing / running rough problem

was sitting in a carpark. waiting to pick someone up when the idle became rough. and sounded like a wrx
Symptoms.
seems to be running on 4 . or very very retarded timing. as the cats were white hot after just putting the car home as slowly a possible in only 3 mins.
Rev counter was working at idle but disspears above it.
tried disconnecting each coil pack , starts and fires but will not run with either disconnected.. same goes for the ignitors
not sure if its connected but the car is loosing oil somewhere around 1/2 dipstick over 300kms less.

hoping someone has an idea or its off to the mechanic on the back of a truck :-( sigh.... only a week into soarer ownership.... not a good start.

finding the oil leak would be a good start, might be leaking onto a sensor or into one of the distributors...

Are the cats stuffed? If they collapse and block up it will cause rough running and they will get mighty hot in no time. Check for error codes?

i doubt it would be the cats as it want from fine to fucked instantly.... no idea how to check for codes on this... more research.

1uz's have issues with coil packs or igniters as they over heat/fail from being in close proximity to the engine. maybe ones being dicky and not firing consistently

the leads are a pritty common problem on 1uz's there hell tiny

99% of the time either one of the coils has died, or one of the ignitors has died.
Very common occurence nowadays.
Find a friend with a 1UZ and swap some parts.

was a coil. however coil was a dead short.. so killed the ignigtor too and something else apparently. meh ... makes more power than before now...
