    Default RA40 suspension

    Hi guys, new poster here.

I have a 1980 RA40 celica LB and I want to put coil overs in it.

How do I work out which ones to get and how to fit them? Dad tells me he used to always buy bilsteins but they're crazy expensives. Some friends have recommended me HSD.

I have limited knowledge on this but I have a basic understanding.

    Thanks,
    Moose

Just repeat whatever folks do with RA28's the front end is near identical.

Otomoto or T3 strut tops, Otomoto weld-on coilover kit, suitable struts, slam away.

    This thread: http://www.toymods.org.au/forums/sho...overs-56k-DIAF
    is the place to start.

A growing number of folks have stuck with RA40 struts and adapted different calipers (mazda 4-spot, etc).

Default RA40 suspension - axle tramp and coilovers

    Considering a new suspension setup for the RA40 hillclimb car. It is currently fitted with;
    - lowered springs
    - stock replacement shocks
    - whiteline rear swaybar
    - sigma lower control arms

The lower control arms made a massive improvement to turn in, but as it is not using all the tyre some more camber would be good. Also it has chronic axle tramp off the line.

Can anyone tell me if this setup will work on an RA40? (typical AE86 conversion)
What spring rates suit hillclimb / track days? Front: 6kg/mm Rear: 4kg/mm?
Any ideas on where to get custom rear springs made?

    Front
    - T3 adjustable strut tops (already have these not fitted)
    - Sigma lower control arms (already have these fitted)
    - HSD 51mm coilover sleeve kit
    - KYB AGX shocks (90-95 SW20 MR2 front inserts part # 765015)

    Rear
    - Custom springs to match the fronts
    - KYB AGX shocks (82-02 Camaro rears part # 743019)

    Cheers,

    Wal

try 300 lbs front and 200lbs rears 24mm front bar that can be adjusted to go up higher on bar
on the back stock std factory rear sway bar
i use bilstein on front and back ,but these are the biggest that will go into the strut
can use any weld on kit for the small coil overs for the front struts
and on adjustable strut tops only use cusco as the t3 1s are crap

    Interesting. That is 5.3 & 3.5 kg/mm in metric.

Speaking of ae86, did you use Bilsteins for the ae86 in your car? I am having trouble finding a part number for Bilsteins in the front of the RA40.
