Default 4AGZE and E58 starter motor

Ok need some info before I go out and buy yet another starter motor. Trying to source one that fits my 4AGZE build with an E58. The two I have so far (One apparently being an AE101 4AGZE starter!?) don't seem to fit. Now either I have the wrong starter, not fitting it properly or a weird head/water pipe + box configuration. So does anyone have any pictures of 4AGZE starter setups or info on what will fit?

28100-16160. Think this is a 4AFE starter and the front of it seems to hit against the bellhousing and won't fit in all the way.

28100-16110. This part number matches an AE101 starter and the pictures I can find indicate it is, but it hits against the water pipe bracket/bolt.

I stole this pic off the web which is apparently an AE92 4AGZE starter but definately looks different to my one in the pic above!

These are the best photos I could take of the stock 4AGZE setup in my AE101 Levin.

The engine will be coming out soonish, so I can get better pics and part numbers then.

28100-16110 is indeed the part number for the AE101 4AGZE starter motor, so your pipes may be different??....
On my engine, the larger and smaller pipe are two separate parts.

Thanks Terra, the photos are much appreciated! That indeed looks like the starter I've got here.

The water pipes also look the same or similar. The bracket holding the big water bypass pipe is the one its fouling on.

Anyone have any more pics of the back of their 4AGZE?

I think your problem is with your pipes. My pipes are the same as the AE92 above, and they look different to yours. The smaller pipe sits much higher, and they larger one probably has more clearance to suit the starter.

Your deadset right, the big pipe in the photo above has the bracket in a different location to mine which should give it enough clearance. I'll try source one and give that a whirl. I'll let everyone know. Thanks!

I had this problem when I put a 4AGZE starter on my smallport 4AGE. I cut the rear section of water pipe fouling on the starter and replaced it with rubber hose which I could bend around it. It's worked perfectly for over 3 years now.

Ok I'm confused, so your saying the gze starter fitted with the 4age's c52 box Talasas?

Quicksilver you say the 4afe starter (was it a later inlet side one), which should be the same as a late inlet side mounted 4age one wouldn't fit with the E58 box? Or is that only because of the pipes?

Yeah I just plan on cutting the pipe back like you did Talasas.

I plan on just ordering an ae95 one as they came with a E series box...should fit

The 4AFE starter didn't fit the E58 since on these starters there is a shroud which covers the spline and this hits the gearbox case when putting the starter in.

UPDATE: I just received an AE101 GZE water pipe from Japan so will do a test fit of that very soon...hopefully it all fits together!

Ok, don't have pics but for future reference the AE101 water pipe bolts up a little bit higher, allowing the starter (28100-16110) to fit correctly.
