    Default MA71 lights fault.

    Hey guys.
I bought an MA71 on the weekend, and the little orange warning light on the dash that i presume is rear lighting fault has come on. Only problem is that all the rear lights are working fine. . . . Any ideas on causes and / or how to fix?? Its probably a short somewhere, but has anyone had this happen.
    Thanks.

is it on all the time? is it the symbol of the car that has six strokes at the rear of it?

usually if there is a light out they only come on once you do something on the rear, like when you start the car it will be off, then if you press the brake and it comes on, means a brake light is out, if it only come on when your lights go on park then a tail light is out.

i had it happen on my car once, the light came on and all bulbs were fine, i took all the bulbs out and clean them cause they were getting a corrision build up on then, then it was fine.

Had the same problem in my MA70 and it was the light failure unit in the boot, next to the taillights.

In my case it was bad grounds in the light fixture panel. Alot of the bul;b sockets were corroding quite badly. Cleaning the corosion/electrolysis away fixed it. but it's back again. >

Yeah this is a common problem with the A70's as they tend to be prone to leak through the tailights as the seals on them become old.

If you take your rear plastic mouldings out and have a look near the drivers side rear tailight you will see a small white box, this is the brake failure control module which detects when a light is out, and displays that symbol on your dash.

If your car leaks badly like mine used to you will get this light on your dash whenever it rains and if the water has corroded it enough, it will be permanently on which mine did and made me want to fix it.

I took mine apart and cleaned it with a metal brush but when i did this it scraped out a few pins off one of the chips as it was heavily corroded.

I carefully resoldered it back in where it was, sealed up the unit with some silicon and at the same time i resealed my tailights at the top with silicon also.

I also chose to relocate the module to a different spot on the rear, more towards the edge of the car - this can be used for a temporary fix too if you don't mind the leaks.

I did this last winter and so far it's a perfect fix, hope this helps.

Thanks guys. Come to think of it, it did come on first when it was raining.
I shall have to check up on that one.
    Cheers.
